Mr Skyline
Just got my GS600 V2 PSU earlier today, looks brilliant! Connected everything up nice and tidy, everything seemed find until about 1-2 hours ago I noticed a feint knocking sound, now I know about the temp-controlled fan and such but this particular noise I couldn't find anywhere else online in a forum. Even weirder is that the noise will go away the second the fan starts to spin up (which by the way is hardly ever, slightly worrying even after running Unigen Heaven on Extreme Settings for about 20 minutes) The best way I can describe the noise is like.... imagine hearing a woodpecker, but far far away that you'd only just pick up the high-note of the sound, kind of like that. Now I know the first instinct in this situation is to get an RMA sorted out but I just cannot be without my PC for a extended period of time, it was bad enough having to RMA my XFX 6850 which took 2 WEEKS to have a replacement sent to me, is there anything Corsair can do so I'm not left without a PSU? peanutz94
Submit an rma using the online form and then once you recieve AN RMA number contact CS by phone and ask about an advanced replacement. But it will require a phone call for CC security reasons.

Because if that's the case, and LOTS of other people are having issues with the Corsair GS600/700/800 V2 PSU's, then would Corsiar be able to swap it for an identical PSU? I don't fancy getting the same one back and have the same, if not similar, problem. :)
darksparten
If they go away as the fan spins up it's a bad fan. If the noises aren't of an electronic nature(which would indicate bad grounding or arcing) then just submit an RMA, and call corsair customer service for an advanced RMA, where they'll ship you a unit, and once you get it you ship the old one back in the box the new one came in. If they are of an electronic nature, first check your motherboard grounding, if it doesn't make it stop, stop using using the computer and RMA. Corsair will only replace with an identical unit, however if you are on your 2nd or 3rd RMA sometimes they will make an exception and switch your unit(in this case it'll most likely be a TX or CX series PSU). Personally I'd never buy a GS myself, the LEDs aren't worth the performance loss IMO, for 100 bucks you can get a TX750M or even an HX750 if you wait for a sale or pay 10-20 more dollars, those PSUs are more efficient, and are modular. This is correct except in this case you would receive the 2013 edition which addressed and fixed the fan controller issue. http://www.corsair.com/us/power-supply-units/gs-series-power-supply-units/gs-series-gs600-80-plus-bronze-certified-power-supply-2013-edition.html My guess is that you got old stock somewhere, so i would go ahead and let Corsair replace it. Mr Skyline
). This is correct except in this case you would receive the 2013 edition which addressed and fixed the fan controller issue. That's the one I have right now, a brand spanking new 2013 Corsair GS600, so the fan controller issue is supposed to be "fixed" is it compared to the old version? Couldn't have done a good job "fixing" it then if it still has these kind of problems. I have come to the conclusion that it's an electrical fault, it cannot be the fan because the unit is quieter when the fan is moving compared to when it's idle. I'll try re-mounting and re-install it into my case again but if this is supposed to be a "fixed" version of the previous model then that's a bit of a joke... txun
Did you try turning off energy saving features in your BIOS? I got a GS800 yesterday and had the same issues with the whining noise but after listening to someone about turning off my power saver in bios I am noise free for the time being. RobertHague
I was searching for this all over recently. From what the poster described this is the exact noise that I hear. My PSU is the 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 600W '80 Plus Bronze'. Under standard operation, it's totally silent. If I run a game however within a few minutes I can hear a very faint tapping sound - then the fan spins up and the noise goes away. It spins down very shortly after however (within a few seconds) and then the noise kind of returns till it spins up again a few seconds later. It does this continually until the system load is reduced. I find it highly unlikely that myself and the poster would have the same defect in the fan? To me it sounds like the system is on the brink/threshold of spinning up but not quite there (hence the noise). During none load operations as I said the thing is totally silent. I can only really hear the PSU noise since the rest of the system is pretty silent. If the graphics card fan ever spins up (which is rare) it drowns it out totally, so if you had a case with a couple of system fans + loud graphics card fan etc you likely wouldn't notice it. An iteresting thing to note, I was playing a game for an extended period and my graphics card fan was indeed getting to the point of spinning up briefly (likely because the system in general was getting warm - its a Mini ATX). But the PSU noise seemed to have vanished totally! I think that relates to what I said about thresholds, since a warmer system seemed to cure it. My system is a new pre-build btw. EDIT: Is this the noise Mr Skyline? Because that's exactly what I hear.
neildsb
I have just received a 2013 GS600, with the same annoying knocking sound when the fan is not spinning, did your new rma unit fix the problem?
peanutz94
Guys, can you all please post the lot number of those PSU's as Ram Guy suggested in his previous post? And if you already have an RMA or case number please post that as well.
