I have installed four h100s on the same PC since September. I have the following recurring issues:

1) Fans suddenly spin to max RPM. ( I fix this by using the reset procedure about every other day. )

2) Pins 1 and 2 go dead. ( I have started using pins 3 and 4 instead. For some reason this seems more reliable. )

3) "h100 temps 2,3,4" suddenly show up in link. ( I just "hide" them. )

4) CPU fan error on startup. I let it boot to the BIOS error, then hit reset on the PC and it will boot to windows.

Should I just abandon the h100 and use something else? I am really getting tired of spending all of this time pulling the PC out, changing the unit, resetting the unit, driving to UPS, etc. I should be playing games instead of dealing with all of this.

The H100i might be a better option, I would get a different PSU. Unless you are adding 2 more 680's that's way too much power IMO. Even an AX 860i is a little too much but would be closer to what you need for power consumption.

Thanks, I am going to add more 680s when the prices come down some. :sunglasse

What about the h110? That looks to be from a different OEM supplier. It doesn't seem to connect to link, but that's not a deal breaker. I just want something reliable to cool the CPU.

You will need a case that can accommodate 280mm rad, if it does then you are good. The cooler does not require Link functionality at all.

I have a Cosmos II. I just checked the top mount. It looks like it will take either 15mm or 20mm spacing. (The holes are over-sized/slider types.)

I think I am going to go with the h110. It would be better if it worked with Link, but at this point I just want it to cool properly.

Thanks for the help.

Ramguy,

I called and spoke with customer service about available options. They said that they can only replace the h100 with the h100i. Do you know if there is any other way to get an h110? I am willing to pay the difference in costs.

Thanks

Sorry wemdee, but our customer service would normally have the last say when it comes to replacement. Have you tried contacting you reseller and see if they can swap it out for you?

I bought it on Amazon and it said "sold by corsair". Would that be amazon or corsair?

I think your problem is the h100 not syncing with your Link commander. I had that problem with my H80. I RMA'd to the H80i, now all is well. I don't have my Link commander installed though. I'm thinking about installing it again someday, but the Link software already works with the H80i.

You have the same mobo as me, so most of your fans and temps can be read and controlled by BIOS or Asus AI Suite II. (if you have that installed) Personally, I don't have the AI Suite installed, so I depend on Hwinfo, GPU-Z and Trixx. Only the ambient temp probe is not found by either of them. I don't think I want to go to all the trouble of installing the Link Commander just for that one probe, when I can see it in the BIOS.

BTW, I think you have the right PSU. There is no such thing as having TOO MUCH psu! The computer will only use the amount of power it needs, it's not like it gets forced fed power it doesn't want. lol.

Hey, if he's getting 2 more 680's his PSU is great, but if you look at PSU specs. they are most stable and most efficient when running at 50 to 70 %, so in effect there is such a thing as too much PSU in that sense. Alot of folks just think more is better so they waste alot of $ getting massive PSU's the don't need. Obviuosly in this case, since he will be adding more GPU that's not the case. Just my opinion.

Just ONE 680 like he has REQUIRES A MINIMUM of almost 600W psu. That's according to graphics card mfg. He also has two 2 TB drives in Raid 0, plus 2 DVD combo drives, not to mention a sound card! That means he is already operating at 50% - 70% capacity with his current PSU. I don't even know how much memory he has installed, or whether he is overclocking. Plus of course, he has plans to add in more graphics cards! IOW, his psu is well chosen. ;):

My experience is that too many people cheap out on the PSU in their high end builds. I figure the PSU should be bought with plenty of margin (not just the bare minimum) and high quality. After x number of years the aging of the capacitors in a PSU can actually lower its output by as much as 20 to 40 percent!

Sorry for getting on my soap box, but I really think the OP's PSU is well chosen.

Taking it a little personal, by the way, that 600w is for the whole system not just the Card. I calculated what he would need and it's 600w min. I did not meam to ruffle your feathers. He has said he is going with 2 more 680's so he is good.

I got it for expansion of another 680 (or maybe 2 if I can support/need it ) and the 1200 was the only "i" model at the time.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am going to go with the h100i for now and see how that goes.

I think you will be happy. Definately when the new firmware is released most of the kinks should be worked out anyhow. Good luck !!
