Rink
Hi, I have recently assembled a new rig and I'm having a slight issue with the build. Upon installing new OS no problems occurred, however when I finally got onto my desktop and opened regular folders such as My Computer / Documents the machine started to act weird. It took me about a minute to just open my computer, when I tried to open the folder multiple times it froze completely saying that explorer.exe has stopped responding. When I tried to do anything at that point the machine locked up completely, I was not able to move my cursor and caps lock / num lock keys were not lighting up on the keyboard when pressed. I ran memtest for 3-4 hours with no problems, the strange issue is the fact that whenever I stick my RAM module to another slot on the motherboard, the BIOS gets corrupted and I am forced to go through the recovery process. Sometimes upon pressing the reset button, the system is not able to find my hard drive prompting me to insert appropriate boot device. If I shut down my pc at that point and turn it back on again it boots normally. My final issue are UNBELIEVABLY long loading times in some applications such as PS / GIMP (they're stuck on splash screen for 2-3 minutes with "not responding" status and then suddenly they unfreeze and continue loading everything in under 5 seconds). It happens in games as well. My computer specification: CPU: I5-2500k (stock speed) RAM: Corsair CMV4GX3M1A1333C9 4GB MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H (BIOS version F19g) GFX: AMD 6870 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500gb PSU: OCZ 700W StealthXStream II I'd like to mention that my HDD is from my older machine which I have used 8-9 months ago, then I have taken it out and recently I've decided to use it again. I'd appreciate any help or suggestion on what could possibly cause this issue. Thanks.

Did you install all the MB and chipset drivers? I have to ask so forgive me if you did. But if so i would have to say there is some issue with that MB and not the memory. I also have to ask why just 1 4 gig stick? The OS needs two right off the bat and your only running single channel instead of dual which is really slowing down memory performance to begin with. But it still sounds like that Mb is bad since the BIOS corrupts when switching slots. Sometimes upon pressing the reset button, the system is not able to find my hard drive prompting me to insert appropriate boot device. If I shut down my pc at that point and turn it back on again it boots normally. This is normal any time you have to recover the BIOS or when a certain config doesn't work and the BIOS has to reset. Rink
Yes, I did install all the required drivers for the mobo, also, from looking around the internet I have noticed that most of these boards have similar problems to mine. I admit that single ram stick is not enough. I think my best bet would be to RMA this motherboard and purchase additional RAM stick. Thanks for the response. I admit that single ram stick is not enough. I'll agree to having the board RMA's but if as far as the memory is concerned, i would return that as well and get your self a matched kit vs two single random sticks. Your just asking for further problems with the two single sticks clashing with each other. Not only that a 1600mhz kit would be far better than a 1333mhz kit since your CPU will run 1600mhz memory natively.
Rink
Right, thank you, I will RMA the RAM as well, is there any particular model of RAM / MB you would recommend for my current build? I am going to get a refund for the MB since I do not want to face similar problems with another motherboard from Gigabyte.
peanutz94
Assuming your going to be using the same MB/CPU any of the Vengeance dual channel kits would be just fine.
Rink
I'm guessing the same ram would be alright with ASrock Z75 Pro3, right? I have got my refund and now I have to decide which board I am going to get.
peanutz94
Yes, they would work equally as well on that MB.
