AX860 whining

The 850 is out of stock, when I spoke with the rep about the RMA they said they would send the AX860 instead, I just received it a few days ago for my RMA and got everything going.

After trying to recreate the scenario that would cause the whine on the AX850, I am very pleased to say that the AX860 is working great, no whines, whisper quiet. Huge props to the customer service team for making the whole process so easy :)

Monitering this thread. I'm planning on building a new computer, and would not do it without certain knowledge that the new fix is going to work... I am a loyal customer and really like the AX860i, but the issue is holding me off.

Well despite all the the reports of coil whine I ordered the AX860 from Amazon, since the ax850 is ridiculously overpriced right now and the ax860i has features I don't need, so the extra cost is not justified.

Will post an update when it arrives from the UK, might return it if does whine.

So I just got my unit and put together my system.

There is high pitched noise coming from my psu, even when my system is off, only way to get rid of it is to turn the power off.

Its a electrical buzzing sound.

However its only audible when I'm close to my the case or I specifically listen for it, its not a big deal as long as it doesn't get louder... I have a HAF X case with the default fans(loud)

I don't think a premium product like this should do this

psu is not for people who want a silent system

Looks like I won't be getting any attention here, starting the RMA progress

Sorry to hear about your PSU mate. I have the TX750 V2 and it doesn't make noise when the computer is off like yours, but it makes a weird rattling noise when I am using the computer.

Even the new replacement unit I got has the same problem :\

Hope your RMA goes well!

Just maded my new pc, saw some reviews saying the AX860 was a great psu... when i pressed power on there it went, a noise that its very annoying do to my silent build...

I use my pc to work and sometimes play games, and this noise affects allot my attention to it, mainly because i cant stop tinking about it. i payed alot for this psu in Portugal, almost 200E...

Dunno if i rma it our just buy another brand since i hear alot of ppl saying that they rma several times with the same issue.

I cant "live" without my pc because of my work (Work==Pay), and y old pc died on me (motherboard) but it was 7 full on years...

Need advice if there is a way to resolve this matter...

Sorry for my english.

Miropt, the first place to star would be your reseller if you are still within their time frame for returns/exchanges. If they can not or will not help you then please use the link on the left to request an RMA. Since you can't be without your system for obvious reasons you can always call CS and ask for an advanced replacement.

Just did a RMA. Ty for pointing me the way.

Ticket 6053386.

How many days do they usually ship a new one, i cant have no pc since my job depends on it.

I asked if they can ship it before i sen my faulty one since i really really cant be without my pc. I dont mind giving my credit card number... Is This normally acceptable by corsair?

Miropt, it will depend on your location. Normal RMA's take between 7-10 buisness days to complete and you can safely add a couple of days to that for overseas shipments.

Now, the new RMA system is supposed to allow youto supply your CC info and ask for an advanced RMA , but that may take a little extra time waiting for a response. If at all possible i would call their CS and with your ticket number and they would be able to set you up with an advanced replacement right away. In most cases you would receive your PSU in a day or two.

If you are overseas, you can use SKYPE from any computer or even smart phone to call the toll free number for nothing anywhere in the world.

Picking this thread up again. The original problem in this thread was related to a whining AX860. Well actually I bought two. One of them I RMA'ed for another AX860 but it had the same whine. The second one I RMA'ed for an AXi and sold it off. I am still left with one AX860 and I have been waiting for some interesting news from Corsair. Maybe the interesting news is here, in form of the new RM series!?

I know the RM series is only Gold certified and supposed to replace the TX but in the end I dont care as long as its real silent. Not sure if they ship yet and have not found any reviews.

If they live up to their promise I am thinking maybe it could be worthwhile to RMA my whining AX for a new RM.

After running the replacement AX760 for couple of days, I can confirm that Corsair has improved the acoustic performance. Gone is the annoying high pitch noise.

It’s not a 100% silent PSU though. Every PSU emits some noise. I can’t say how AX760 compares to others. In my opinion, unless you plan to have the PC sitting with open side right next to you, the noise level of the upgraded AX760 shouldn’t be a problem.
