mven42
I am curious if the Corsair Link commander/software is capable of completely turning fans off. The fans would be Corsair AF140s. I have an Obsidian 550D case and I really like it all nice and closed up and relatively quiet. However when I do a long gaming session temps can get rather high on my 680s (this is primarily due to a poor choice in cards as I have 3 slot Asus DirectCU2 "Top" cards and top one is sandwiched with minimal airflow but that's another story). Anyway, what I'd like to do is connect 2 pairs of AF 140s on the top and side panels of my 550D which are usually closed and then when I plan on gaming for long periods and have my headphones on anyway I can pop the panels off, turn on the fans, and enjoy a bit more air flow. I am trying to decide if I want to purchase a fan controller for the front panel of my case (I'd rather not they all look tacky) or use a corsair link set up. I'd rather not have the fans running when the panels are closed even at super low RPM if possible. When I am not gaming my case is more than cool enough as is. TL;DR if I hook 4 AF140s to a corsair link commander/cooling node can I completely turn them off via software. Thanks!! (Also I have an AX860i, H80i, an AF140, and 6 SP120s [4 on the front and back of the lower drive cages, 2 on the H80i - I liked the colored rings and black blades more than the grey ones the h80i came with] already installed which makes Corsair Link preferable as well)
wytnyt
i dont think link is designed to fully stop a fan,if the fan were to fully stop, link would have to full spin it in order to curb and regulate the rpm ,like it does at boot up
Skunkworks
Being able to turn fans off completely would be really useful. Make it happen, Corsair.
robandcathy
fully stopping fans is kinda a usless point because there is a great threashold between off and min. Off is off but a fan has a min speed usually around 600RPM which is very quiet and the start and stop of a fan can have its toll. Running a fan at 600 rpm vs stop and start is better and the fan will last longer.
mven42
I understand it would be really quiet. Just seems wasteful to have 4 fans running with a foam padded wall millimeters away that they are blowing air into/sucking air from lol.
Skunkworks
For me the difference between a fan being off and really slow/quiet is dust. My PC runs for about 16 hours per day, and most of the stuff I do with it puts very little strain on it, so being able to have fans completely off would be a useful feature for me. mven42
Well that is pretty much my situation as well. 90% of the time I doubt my video cards will heat up much beyond their standard idle temps. It's just that every once in a while when I want to nerd out and game for 6 hours straight that I want to be able to kick all of the fans on and keep my box running cool.
