CMOwen
I just upgraded my audio workstation with a new rme card and I put my old echo card in my entertainment/gaming pc. I just ordered a set of SP2500's that should be here tomorrow afternoon. The audio outputs on my old card are 1/4 inch (balanced or unbalanced)and the output level is selectable between +4dBu and -10dBV. With professional studio monitors I use balanced 1/4 inch to XLR cables and select +4dBu. For the SP2500's I will be using unbalanced 1/4 inch to RCA cables. What output level should I use with the SP2500's, +4dBu or -10dBV? Thanks in advance for any help :):
CMOwen
SOLVED If you find yourself in the same situation, use -10dBV. The SP2500's won't handle +4dBu without a little distortion (signal is too hot). You'll find -10dBV a tiny bit weak, but I think we can all agree there is plenty of headroom with the system (unless you are deaf). When using the echo card, I find I have to bring the SP2500 master level up just one extra notch to match the output from my on-board Realtek audio. I can live with that for a nice clean signal
