David Cole
Should I install this psu fan up or fan down, please? The case is a 550D. Thanks.
1ceTr0n
Down, its how the case was designed to have the PSU. Otherwise, the PSU will suck in the hot air from your GPU

David Cole
I've just checked out the installation advice in the sticky here and that suggests you install the psu with its fan facing into the case - the guide uses a psu situated at the top of the case but with the fan facing in. This seems contracdictory - http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/How-To-Replace-Your-Power-Supply/362/
Nickjf20
It doesn't really matter Sucking air from the case will be warmer (not by much) but a lot less dusty, plus it will help with airflow Sucking from outside will be cooler but will let more debris into the PSU. Swings and roundabouts. I've got mine sucking from the case because I have to Just an FYI, the ancient case in that article can only have the fan facing inside ... David Cole
Thanks. I see that the labels for each of the cable connectors on the psu itself are upside down if you mount this psu with its fan facing out of the case. They can only be read when the psu is installed with the fan facing into (into) the case. Surely the designers would have orientated the labelling so that it could be read as the modular cables were connected?

Surely the designers would have orientated the labelling so that it could be read as the modular cables were connected? They're designed to be used both ways depending on the case hence the different orientations of the branding stickers on the sides of the PSU. The connectors only fit in one particular slot so the naming isn't important, and I'm sure anyone that's competent enough to install their own PSU is also competent enough to read upside down. The text has to be one way up, it just so happens it's upside down for you and the 'right way' round for others If I were you I'd have the fan facing into the case for less noise and an extra exhaust fan when it's on
David Cole
Thanks. I hadn't realised there was no right answer. The manual - such as it is - should explain that orientation is up or down. Normally - in all the other psu's I have installed, there is a clue in the placing of the screw holes. If it's upto me, I will go with the fan facing up.
