Why is there a 12 to 8 pin CPU power?

Just about to make a thread on this question, any reason why this cable is included with the PSU?

 

It doesn't say PCI-E on the other end like the 2 PCI-E cables. I also have another cable that has just 8 connectors on either side, which would most likely be the CPU power cable.

They can both be used as CPU connectors but it means you can't plug in the motherboard power.

I did a little researching, I think it's for motherboards that can take an additional 8-pin for more overclocking stability, it would plug into one of the PCI-E connectors on the PSU side.

 

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.
