wytnyt
Ok, I've been building computers since 1994 (my first was a 486DX2-66 with 4 Megabytes (not Gigabytes mind you) of RAM and a 128 Megabyte HD. Don't talk to me about "overtightening" screws or not knowing how to install things. I installed a H80i and had to remove it 3 times for various reasons. After the 2nd removal, 2 screw holes in the radiator were no longer accepting of the default screws and after the 3rd removal, a 3rd screw hole was stripped. I'm almost thankful the pump has failed (rpm of ~300 max) and so Corsair has accepted an RMA on the unit. Corsair, you need to discuss this issue with your manufacturer. being that the sheet metal on a radiator is so thin there can only be a small amount of threads for the screw to thread in,care must be taken when inserting the screws. quite frankly and no offense but you answered your own question by stating they tightened twice properly so obviously there were sufficient threads initially. these screws are very small and can very easily be over tightened even by a trained installer so dont feel bad as anyone can do this
elite44
the threading on the H80i is very delicate, it doesn't take much force at all to strip the threads..you feel like you are simply tightening up the radiator to make it snug but that's too much force, it will strip every time..not just the corsair but a few other brands as well..i now stop when i start feeling the slightest bit of resistance..just enough so i know the radiator won't move around enough to rattle
markshim
this is a thread i started last christmas and i can`t believe corsair havent done anything about this problem yet. i haven`t touched the new h80i cooler i got as a replacement for fear of the same thing happening again. now the rubber seals around the radiator and pump are starting to crack as well but im told they are just cosmetic and wont cause leaking. corsair should of fixed these problems instead of keep making them and selling them. PapaCarey
Has this issue been resolved? I recently changed cases and when I re-installed the radiator the threads became stripped. Now radiator just kind of hangs there as screws aren't providing much support. I bought the cooler just under 2 years ago and it has worked great. Corsair Employees Corsair Dustin Posted March 2, 2015 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 2, 2015 It's my understanding this is still being pursued with the manufacturer, but in the meantime, check with customer service and see if you can do an advanced RMA. TrueCuriosity
So your trying to tell me, that Corsair have apparently been looking into this issue now for 3 years!!? I have a h100I, one of the threads have gone, meaning that I get a rattle when the fans are on. I honestly can't even be bothered to google whether or not the H100I was out at the time this thread was started. But I am guessing not. So the problem still exists and as per usual you are doing nothing about it. More to the point! you are still releasing Products with this same and known fault?? Corsair Employees Corsair Dustin Posted March 10, 2015 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 10, 2015 It's entirely possible this issue was corrected and then either the unit received is from an old lot or it resurfaced somehow.
