H100i noob question

Hi all quick question I feel silly asking it but which way does the air flow when looking at the fans from this side

Blowing towards or away from you?

I ask this question earlier and the reply I got from COOL GUY was "2.) The airflow on the fans provided with the H80i/H100i is intake on the fan blade side and exhaust on the frame/housing side. Air will exhaust to the side with the arms holding the motor structure. ".

So as you have it pictured, the air flows into those blades and exhausts behind it.

There is also an Arrow on the fan housing showing the direction of the air flow.
No there are no arrows on the fans I received with the H100i. I checked carefully on all side, front and back and there are no marking what so ever :sigh!:

I received mine on the 29th Nov.

[still awaiting the firmware fix for the grinding and the high pitch whine :p: ]

Rule of thumb on determining fan airflow is by looking at the blades. If you look at the blades, all blades are positioned in a way where it scoops air. Now if you imagine if the blades are running, it cuts air and pushes to one direction. From the photo above, picture the blades are running and you can tell that air is being pushed away from the sticker, therefore, the air flow would be away from the Corsair logo or away from you.

it would depend on which way the blades rotate as looking from the other side you could make the same assumption most fan bodies do have an arrow either to show rotation or flow or both but the fans supplied with my H80i had no markings so to be sure I connected one to a fan header on the motherboard and noted the direction which is towards the frame as suggested above.

Glad I found this thread. I was wondering if my fans were spinning the right way, and it appears they are. It seems counter-intuitive to me.

I thought they were supposed to draw cool air in from outside the case, across the radiator and into the case. But instead they are blowing warm air from inside the case, across the radiator, and exhausting it out of the top. Am I correct?

I used to have this problem until I thought about the blade shapes. You need to look at the the curve of the blades outer edge and also the curve where the blade meets the cylinder. Its quite simple, case fan blades work much like a 'scoop' that was alluded to above.

Can you post a photo of the fan that came with your cooler? Let me take a look and see if its indeed the exact opposite of what I have posted.

They key is by looking at the blades of the fan. Cjlawrie is correct, it act like a scoop depending on the blade position. Look at the blade and spin it, you will then understand how the air is being pushed.

So, to clarify, as you look at this picture, the fan spins in a counter-clockwise rotation?

That's the only way where the air comes in from the sicker side and exits out through the X bracing side.

This is consistent with Silenx fans which have easy to follow arrows on the fan case.

This is ridiculously confusing. There are a number of factors that need to be considered:

1. A correct interpretation of the Corsair manual is required. It states, "For the best cooling performance, we recommend mounting the fans as an air-intake to your PC case."

Does this mean the fans should take air from inside the case and expel it out of the case or does it mean the fans should suck air into the case from outside? Does it matter? The fans that come built-in to my case are mounted so that they take air from inside the case and expel it outside. Does it matter if the Corsair CPU fans do the same as the Case fans or not?

2. Once we know the answer to point 1 the next question is:

What way does the air flow through the fans as the manual is wrong when it says look for the arrow on the casing, it doesn't exist.Previous forum posts have answered this http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113009&highlight=air+flow+arrows

The manual should be much clearer on this.

intake means just that,it brings in air which is obviously cooler to better cool the radiator.

you can just hook one of the fans up prior to install to determine airflow but it usually flows toward the logo

youll have to change fans for best flow since using a cooler

The instructions show a diagram that reads "Attach the radiator and fan as shown. For the best cooling performance we recommend mounting the fans as air-intake to your PC case". The diagram is showing the fans facing inside the case. Which is it??? All over this thread for intake the fans should be positioned the other way. Are the instructions wrong? If they are now I have to go back into my case and reinstall the fans because I want them to exhaust. I flipped the fans from the way they look in the diagram because I assumed they were being shown as INTAKE....
