jimskeet
Hi. I RMA my previous Kingston ram kit of 2x4gb I had and I decided to try the CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8. First I want to ask you guys if I will have any compatibility issues? I guess not, right? Second I want to ask you about how I will configure them. Will I simply choose XMP in bios and everything will work as intended???
peanutz94
Those modules should be just fine in that system. And yes, all you should have to do is enable XMP. Just be sure to clear your CMOS before installing the new modules.
jimskeet
Thanks a lot :). I think i might didnt confiqure correctly my previous ones. I only changed the dram frequency to 1600 from 1333. I didnt change anything else. I believe that was a bad setup? Could this be the cause of one of them fail? Also the process i will follow now is a) install the dimms b) boot in bios and restore defaults c) choose XMP and i am done?

And yes yo are correct, if you just change the frequency from 1333 to 1600 without a voltage adjustment to match, the could fail that way.
jimskeet
Oh. My kingston had specs of 1600mhz 9-9-9-27 and 1.65v but in auto it was running on 1333 and 1.5v So i should have changed to 1.65v also right? but could lower voltage ruin the dimm? :/ i think higher voltage would do that. Or am i wrong?
peanutz94
Oh. My ******** had specs of 1600mhz 9-9-9-27 and 1.65v but in auto it was running on 1333 and 1.5v So i should have changed to 1.65v also right Correct, you should have changed them to 1.65v if thats what they were rated for at 1600mhz/ Trying to run them at 1600 mhz at 1.5v would NOT have damaged them. they just would fail to run at rated speed. Enabling the XMP profile should set all the necessary voltages for you though. EDIT, For what it's worth your system should run 1.5v memory anyway. Intel doe not support 1.65 memory with the Sandy/Ivy bridge systems. You may want to return the new kit and find a 1600mhz kit that runs at 1.5v
jimskeet
Nice. My ram dimms worked fine for 20 days without any stablility issues but then one of them was damaged. Wouldn't even run on auto settings at 1333. Thanks a lot for the help. I will configure my new ram with xmp once I get them in my system.
