I am sorry but the components inside are from neither company and I am not at liberty to state which sub-contractor we are using to build our PSU's ATM. Sorry! Maybe Corsair George can comment on this one?

Just read a review of the HX 850 v2 cp-9020030 over at JonnyGuru.com and from his review here's a quote.

"Looks a little different from the design used in the original HX850, but this is still recognizable as a Channel Well built unit. Ah, good old CWT. I've been on and off with them since 2002. My oldest unit in general is one of theirs, now that my old AT form factor units are all gone."

"I have to say this is about the best soldering I've ever seen in a CWT unit. They may be moving up in the world. Even better - no heatsink screws to work loose."

Here's the link to the review, by the way they loved the new version!

Looks like a CWT really... at least looking at the case style and modular connectors similar to the other HX ones from CWT...

Btw, would be good if Corsair really name it (on the site, at least) as "HX650 V2" to avoid confusions... looking at photos, modular cables from old and new one doesn't seem to be compatible, etc... and not the same product really, makes no sense to launch it with same model name.

A bit off-topic: IMO pity that Corsair did changed a lot of PSU's from Seasonic to CWT made ones (almost all except AX650, AX750 and AX850 apparently), I would really like to see some low power Seasonic made PSU's, even on CX and VX/TX series... It's not that I have something against CWT ones, but I had very good experience with Seasonic made ones and will continue trying to get them, Corsair or not, sorry... :(

Again it does not matter who we use to Build the PSU's they are our designs internally and are not a copy of the subcontractors we use to build the units so it make no difference who we use to assemble the PSU. We may use their PCB but the components will be different internally. Also verified in that same article if read the whole article.

A: And they already are if you look at the part number it is different for the V2 models...

CMPSU-650HX is 650HX Version 1 Rated Bronze.

CP-9020030-NA is 650HX V2 Rated Gold.

I would suggest reading the web site you are looking at and asking them to check the model or part number they are selling to you. Some of the resellers have updated the web site but still selling the older version we will correct them when we see this but we cant check every reseller..

  • 9 months later...

so is it certain that I get a fixed PSU when I send my HX650 in for noisy up and down of the fan?

listening example here:

Is this kind of (annoying) up and downdriving OK and am I just too demanding of a brand product which cost me 130€ ? or does my fan really have bearing issues?
