Sharing SSD W7 Laptops

Recommended Posts

I have two Windows 7 laptops that I use at conferences as POS (point of sale) machines. I recently installed a Force 3 120gb SSD in a ASUS Win7 i5. The database for the POS resides on the ASUS and I share the db with another laptop via a wired network. The other laptop is a Win 7 machine.

Prior to switching to a ssd, the system ran fine. However, since the ssd swtich the second laptop will have some serious latency issues accesing the db file. IT will run fine then stop and take few moments to get going again. Both machines are accessing the db file at the same time. Again, this was fine prior to the ssd.

I have the current firmware for the ssd and all Win 7 updates.

Any thoughts?

SSD's would not be the best type of drive for a server type of application. IDE is half duplex and you cannot read and write to the drive at the same time and they will not fare well with multi-access application. You would be better off using a SA drive or a SCSI HDD for that application.
