quanta.geo
Tested system ============= Memory: 2048MB Board: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7205) CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Sound: Realtek ALC850 Video: Radeon 9800 Pro When I search for the specifications for the Corsair Value Select 2GB dual Channel DDR Memory Kit (VS2GBKIT400C3), the spec page[1] lists tested and SPD latency as 3-3-3-8, tested and SPD voltage of 2.5v. However, using the Learn & Explore page[2], it lists VS2GBKIT400C3 has latency of 3-3-3-8 and voltage rated 2.6v. However, when I finally purchased the VS2GBKIT400C3 kit and used the modules on the tested system, the default memory timing detected by the motherboard is 3-4-4-8, with voltage of 2.5v. There are no other memory modules used in the test setup, so it was disappointing that the memory modules in the kit are never able to run at 3-3-3-8 at 200MHz (DDR400), even with 2.6v voltage. By increasing latency to stock level of 3-4-4-8, the memory modules are stable until 210MHz. Reducing top memory speed to DDR166 at this point allows the CPU FSB to reach maximum of 233MHz, which clocks memory to about 193MHz. The tested kit was produced in December 2011. While I do not expect Value Select module to be great overclocker, but at least I would expect the product specifications listed in the vendor site to be consistent whether it was from the datasheet or automated memory guide. I certainly do not expect the memory sold at retail is less capable than whatever is listed, and failed to perform at the advertised frequency-latency combination. At least in my case I was able to get full refund from retailer, but other times may not be so lucky.
