IvanPro
hello everyone! I've been running successfully and with zero problems the system in my signature, and now I want to change and sell the Dominators I've got in order to increase the memory size to 4GB. the Corsair configurator recommends these: TWIN2X4096-6400C5, but they are not available in my country where I can find only the TWIN2X4096-6400C5C and TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX. by searching the forums I understood that their only difference from the recommended model lies in the spreaders (C being an evolution step of the standard one and DHX being the best available) so there shouldn't be problems installing them in my motherboard. 1) can you confirm this? I'm asking because here http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=82391&highlight=TWIN2X4096-6400C5C an user had issues with the C version and I want to avoid any possible problem. then here http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=100419&highlight=TWIN2X4096-6400C5C my understanding is that the C version has different CAS values compared to the non-C version (I don't know about DHX, though I suppose they're the same as C): can this difference lead to problems? 2) also, the price difference between C and DHX is minimal, should I consider directly the DHX flavor (I want to make sure RAM stays cool during the summer, as I have the PC in a quite hot environment)? 3) finally I wish to know if I will actually see some improvement besides increased memory size: technically the Dominators I own should be better, although running at only 800 out of their 1066 speed because of the motherboard controller, and I am hoping that the new modules are at least capable tu run at the same overall speed. Thanks in advance. Ivan
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 27, 2012 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 27, 2012 Either set would work and TYWIN2X4096-6400C5C modules are rated at Cas 5-6-6-18 and TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX modules are rated at Cas 5-5-5-18 so TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX are slightly better timings. IvanPro
Thank you RAM GUY, now I feel more confident with my next purchase (as I assume there is a typo in your reply, were you wrote DHZ meaning DHX). Best regards. Ivan.
