hansh
Dear all, I just discovered this forum, when searching for new RAM. I have searched the forums for an answer to my question, but I could not find it - I hope that you can give me advice! The RAM in my rig needs to be replaced (one stick recently died). I'm considering to buy 4*4 GB: CMP16GX3M4X1866C9. This is not the recommended memory, I'm aware of that - I want to buy it also in view of a future system upgrade. Now I would like to know: will it work and, if so: which settings can be expected? Thank you very much for your input! Best regards, Hans
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 23, 2012 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 23, 2012 Yes but depending on the CPU you have it may only run at DDR1066 or DDR1333.
hansh
Thanks RAM GUY, The CPU is a Thuban Core Phenom II X6 1090T BE (Stepping 0, Revision PH-E0). From what I have read, I understand that running at 1333 will not cost too much performance in comparison with the current 1600. Will a command rate of 2T instead of 1T make a difference? Your help is much appreciated! Hans
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 23, 2012 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 23, 2012 If you have more then two slots Filled you may not be able to run at 1T Command Rate this is a limitation of the memory controller but yes 1T C/R is about 300-500 MBps faster then 2T C/R
hansh
Thanks RAM GUY :) I ordered 2*4 GB of Vengeance (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8) just now. I decided that, since I do not need 16 GB at present, I might as well go for 8 GB and aim at better performance (and a Command Rate of 1 maybe). Thanks again for your help!
