Problems with h50?

Finally put together my computer today. I'm getting unreasonably high on my i7 2600k (87-88C). Ambient temp was around 22C. I have not installed anything yet and that was the temps I saw from BIOS. I think I installed the H50 correctly. I took off the cpu block to see if anything was wrong.

This is what I got:

there are a lot of issues regarding this product, but i will not touch on them. i will only mention that that is a MASSIVE amount of paste. i suggest reading a LOT online on proper application techniques... thin, you want it as thin as possible

87C is extremely high on idle. I see some caps close to the CPU, check if those are preventing the cold plate from making a full contact on the CPU. Although, looking at the cold plate and CPU, seems like you have a good contact.

Have you checked the pump? and see if its running at spec or if its running at all... 87C on idle - That's just too high
