Simple question about memory upgrade

Hello, this is my first post although I have looked in and read this forum for many years.

I have a really simple question about a recent memory upgrade I made recently.

I built this system back in 2003 and installed 2 sticks of Corsair CMX512-3200C2 at that time. Recently I purchased and installed 2 sticks of Corsair CMX1024-3200C2 to upgrade my old system. I left the 512 sticks installed in the 1 and 4 DIMM slots (the orange ones) and put the larger memory modules in the 2 and 5 DIMM slots as my mother board manual instructed me to do to take advantage of the DDR and 400 MHz properties. The upgrade went flawlessly and the computer updated without a hitch.

My question is does it make any difference what slots I have my memory modules installed in. I mean should I have put the larger modules in the 1 and 4 DIMM slots or does it matter. Logic tells me that it should not matter but I thought I would ask more knowledgeable folks here on this site.
