mrw0nka
Hi Everyone! First time poster here and new to Corsair products in general. I just built my first new system in a long time and decided I wanted to do things right this time. So what's not a better way to do that than with Corsair? I'm using a Carbide 500R, AX750, and H100. I've never used a case or PSU this nice before in my life and now I'll never be able to go back! I also really want to like the H100 - it's look beautiful in the case not having a huge CPU fan and the performance is better than any cooler I've used. However, it seems unusually noisy. It's by far the loudest component in the case and I keep it at the lowest setting. I have tried all 3 settings and the controller works fine as it increases fan speed progressively. Given the performance though there's no need to go beyond the first setting for my CPU (i5 2500k @ 4.3 - load temps of about 40 C! though the house is cold right now). Unfortunately the noise is just too distracting. With the case entirely closed up and under my desk it's still easily heard anywhere inside of the room. It might be less noticeable if it were a lower pitched hum but it has a higher / irregular tone. It's not the 'air in the pump' problem that some people have described. I can replicate that sound by changing the orientation of the case. That sound is very distinct and goes away after some time or a gentle tap. The noise I'm talking about is just a general level of loudness that I wasn't expecting after reading the reviews describing this as a very quiet setup when used at the lowest setting. The sound is definitely coming exclusively from the H100 because if I cut the power entirely, it's virtually silent (case fans, video card, psu produce very, very minimal sound). csemoses
couple options: 1. isolate the fans from the case with rubber washers 2. if 1. doesnt work, replace the stock corsair fans with quieter 120mm fans. Don't go cheap. You get what you pay for in quiet quality fans.
mrw0nka
I've narrowed down the higher pitched noise to the pump. Are some better than others? The fans although a bit noisy too are a more neutral sound that I can live with.
ElcomeSoft
I've narrowed down the higher pitched noise to the pump. Are some better than others? The fans although a bit noisy too are a more neutral sound that I can live with. The fans have quite a high startup voltage requirement. If they are run off some sort of fan controller or motherboard (if it supports such an operation and can handle the power requirements) then they can be turned up to a voltage so that they start spinning and then reduced down to a reasonably quiet sound level. My H100 pump was louder than the fans in this scenario though I did RMA it.

If the noise is coming directly from the pump and it does not sound like trapped air then it would be best to get it RMA'ed. Try tapping the pump gently and see if that helps. mrw0nka
Thanks for the response. I'll wait another day and see what happens then may RMA to be safe. It might be partially because my house is so cold right now but my god the temps are fantastic.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 21, 2011 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 21, 2011 Yeah, let it break in overnight and see if the noise goes away the next day.
