sean-d04
Ok so I have more than likely purchased the wrong ram for my motherboard as it was my first time trying to upgrade ram.My parents pc is a Dell Inspiron 530 with a RY007 motherboard. They were complaining about their computer getting really slow so I took a look and saw they had only 1GB of ram and vista running. So I checked out the motherboard for Ram that could run on it.I may have picked the wrong ram but I choose this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0027P9C9G I installed them and got a series of beeping in sets of two.So I took out the new ram and installed the old 512mb x 2 ram sticks and now I have the same beeping for them too.Would this be static damage I'm nearly sure I touched the unpainted metal on the pc before handling them.Anyway I will look forward to a reply and sorry for being such a noob :[pouts:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2011 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2011 I am sorry but we no longer make memory that would be compatible with that system, I would suggest asking Dell if they offer memory direct from them. peanutz94
You more than likely just need to rest the machine back to defaults (clear CMOS)so it recognizes your old RAM. Refer to your manual for instructions on how to do that. Also i would not suggest using three individual sticks vs buying a kit. Kit's are made of matched modules where as individual sticks are not. Would this be static damage I'm nearly sure I touched the unpainted metal on the pc before handling them.Anyway I will look forward to a reply and sorry for being such a noob No, you really do not have to worry about static like you did with the old computers. It's almost impossible to damage modern components with static shocks anymore. Even if you did not touch bare metal on your case.
