TheAggie
I ended up going with the CMP16GX3M4X1866C9 kit for my X79 build with ASUS Rampage IV Extreme. I'm running windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit but the bios, memtest and windows are only showing 8 GB. What is interesting though is the motherboard recognizes all four DIMMs under SPD and likewise, CPU-Z recognizes all four DIMMs. I'm really quite confused by this. This is a water cooled rig, which includes two EK Dominator Waterblocks, so I don't want to go through the hassle of testing individual modules and slots before I'm sure the Motherboard should be detecting all 16 GB. Has anyone had any issues with this or have a similar configuration that is posting the correct amount of memory? I've updated the motherboard to the latest bios, 8703 I believe, which states memory compatibility changes as one of the updated features. I'm wondering if there are still memory compatibility issues with the board that could be resolved in a future firmware update.
Synthohol
could also be a bent or misaligned pin under the CPU. also will it detect 12Gb from 3 sticks? i understand the hassle of testing each stick but that is the proper procedure. did you test it before the waterblocks? TheAggie
The water block I'm using is made by EK Waterblocks and apparently doesn't apply the optimal amount of pressure to the CPU. I don't necessarily think that is the problem, but when I remove the waterblock to add the recommended spacers I'll take a look at the pins. Synthohol
on these forums there are dozens of posts where the cpu socket had a bent pin and caused an incorrect amount of ram to be used. also look for a memory remap feature in the bios and enable it. TheAggie
A memory remap feature? Never heard of that.
peanutz94
Really the best way is to test the modules individually. I know it's a pain, i have a water cooled rig myself. But is the most logical approach. If they all test out fine then you can move on. Have you tried to boost memory controller voltage.?
TheAggie
Good news! I noticed two of the DIMMs weren't properly seated. That took care of the memory recognition issue. I ran memtest for a few passes without any errors, so I'm satisfied. Thanks everyone.
