cupton50
I have an Asus P5N-D motherboard. I am having a problem getting it to see all the ram. Here is how it is configured. Slot 1: Part number CM2x1024-6400C4DHX Slot 2: Part number CM2x1024-6400C4DHX Slot 3: Part number CM2x1024-6400 Slot 4: Part number CM2x1024-6400 Slot 1: EPP SPD YES Version 16 Slot 2: EPP SPD YES Version 16 Slot 3: EPP SPD NO Slot 4: EPP SPD NO The motherboard is only seeing 4 Gig of ram. I have looked all through the BIOS and it doesn't look like anything I can switch on or off. Any Ideas?
peanutz94
Yes, you are mixing two different sets of RAM. That is most likely your problem. Have you tested them one at a time with memtest to see if any are failing?
Machtyn
So, let me get this straight, using a 2x CM2X1024-6400 (paired) and 2x CM2X1024-6400C4 (paired) will not work together? I note that the C4's are 4-4-4-12 timings at 2.1V, while the others are 5-5-5-12 timings at 1.8V. I kind of find it odd since they have a very similar part number. In any case, I did try to boost the mobo (P5N-E SLI) to OC the memory slots at 2.1V. In both cases, I experienced a motherboard that would display the splash screen, but would not advance past POST. Other than the part number being similar, that is where the similarity ends. The modules are most likely made from differnt ic's. And if they are not matched at the factory there is no way to guarantee any speed when you use two different kits. You basically have 4 options...you can use one kit or the other , but not at the same time. 2) replace what you have a a single matched kit, or you can lower the frequency and /or loosen the timings to see if you can get them stable. You can also pull the cpu out of it's socket and look for bent pins, and make sure you remount the cooler good.
