Thinking about getting H100

Dunno if what I have planned will fit okay and if the fan speeds will work okay with each other.

I wanted to have it push/pull as exhaust.

400r has the 240mm top for it. Right now I have 2 120x38mm fans in that spot.

I was thinkin I'd have the 38mm fans pullin, and the fans that come with the H100 pushin.

Then I looked in my case. It just doesn't seem like it'd fit.

That's 90mm from the top of the case in total.

Here's a picture of the location and unless it can ninja around my memory and MB bits, I don't see how it's gonna work.

Picture

So..

1. Will it fit?..

2. Will having the 38mm fans > radiator > stock fans be okay? pressure/fit/efficiency wise?

What is the distance from your top fan to the VRM heatsink/memory socket? Looking at your picture, I would say that will never fit. I have a different mobo with a bigger VRM heatsink which prevented me from mounting the H100 with stock fans inside the 400R. Since your mobo has a smaller VRM heatsink, I guess there would be enough room to mount the H100 with stock fans inside (push only). If you want to have push/pull config, you will need to mount the 38mm fans outside on top of the case. So did I, and then I decided to get the 500R ::pirate::

Memory's the longest and it's just under an inch out, into the projected area.

Is the 500R a better fit?

I went with the 400r cause it was on sale :sigh!:

Did not look into it and the 500R looks a bit nicer.

If it'd work out I can still return the 400R and get the 500R. :sigh!:

New build, haven't had long, just now figuring I want water cooling. lol

Well, I measured the distance from top panel and H100 to the center of the upper right mainboard screw. The distance is 36mm and 9mm respectively. From your picture I would say there is no more than 3 or 4mm left from the center of the screw to the memory bank clips/VRM heatsink.

If you want to get the 500R, be aware that you can only install 25mm fans on top with mesh cover closed (140x25mm will also work, static pressure seems not be that important). I guess you will barely fit the 38mm fans inside the case underneath the radiator. Even 25mm fans underneath the rad seems to be impossible. Maybe your setup will work with 600T or 800D, yet I have never seen a picture with H100 in push/pull mounted inside the case.

So 400R has more room under the top panel than 500R?..

I measured ~57mm from panel to RAM/VRM heatsink.

If that's so I don't really have that big of a problem keeping 400R and just putting my 38mm outside the case.

Would leave me with ~5mm of space between H100's fans and RAM/VRM heatsink. Unless I messed up somewhere.

That might be. The 500R has overall more height (508mm) than 400R (503mm), but I guess the additional space is above the top panel. To compare the room under the top panel, it would be great if you could measure the distance from top panel to the center of upper right screw. At least, this spot would define the relative position of mobo to the top panel regardless of any VRM heatsink/memory slot, which could differ in size and position at different mainboard models.

Yeah, seems that this would work. Maybe you can keep us updated and provide some pictures when finished build.

Well, picture looks great!

There are tow reasons why you may want to set H100 fans as intake:

1. Corsair recommends to pull fresh air from outside into the case, this will increase cooling performance.

2. I read in a review, that Obsidian and Graphite series were designed for negative air pressure, while the Carbide series was desgined for positive air pressure. Setting all fans except the rear fan as intake will give you a nice positive air pressure I guess.

Anyway, you should test different setups and see what will give you the best result.

I'd really like to not have to put fans on the outside. lol

Should have planned ahead.

Changed your mind? Thought this would be no problem for you to have them oustide  I don't know what you are planning to do with your rig. IMO pull configuration is sufficent for H100, I get maximum heat of 69°C with OC4.8 and Prime95 stress test. However, if my mobo and case would give me the option, I would setup the H100 in push/pull config for sure.

Haha, I have no problem doing it if I have to for push/pull.

I just wish I would have planned my build better.

I will do intake/exhaust tests and maybe even other airflow setups.

But that's what I figured would be decent. Thought it would be good as exhaust since I have plenty of other fans.

Might even keep the stock fans on it, and put the 1900RPM fans behind my hd slots.

I'll have plenty of options, because with my original setup, I won't be using the case or cooler's stock fans.
