kaaay
My i7 920 is stock settings an on idle it runs around 50 c. Did I tighten it to much? Think it's not touching? Should I rotate it 90 and reapply past? I turned it finger tight or should it be just tight enough with out putting your strength in it? Thanks for the help. Is that temp normal ? parsec
Your temp of 50C at idle, stock settings, for an i7-920 is high. To tight is not a problem with Intel CPUs. But what board and what cooler are you using?!?!

ryukensfj
Yeah 50c at idle for stock settings is pretty high... What temp monitoring software are you using? Are you using case air or ambient air to cool the radiator? What is your ambient air temp? Too tight isn't a problem for the CPU, it can be a problem for you motherboard, but I'm sure you're not too tight. Finger tight is plenty as long as you're not a baby ;) Grab the cpu block and try to wiggle it, if it's loose then it's not contacting fully. kaaay
It's push pull pulling threw case room temp is about 26 c. Using realtemp
ryukensfj
It's push pull pulling threw case room temp is about 26 c. Using realtemp Grab the cpu block and try to wiggle it, if it's loose then it's not contacting fully. Also if you're using case air to cool down the radiator, then make sure you have enough airflow through the case. You can try switching to using ambient air to cool the radiator to see if your case temp is too high.
kaaay
I tried moving it but the only thing that moves is the top of the h100 seems to be pretty snug. And those were the temps I got when I was o/c at 4 ghz was ideal around 50c

kaaay
no when i had it at 4ghz it ran that temp on ideal but im on stock atm
peanutz94
no when i had it at 4ghz it ran that temp on ideal but im on stock atm Thats about normal for a 4ghz OC with that processor. I decided on custom loop vs an AIO cooler. More or less because when i did my loop the h-100 wasn't out yet. But my OC'd temps were comparable. ryukensfj
no when i had it at 4ghz it ran that temp on ideal but im on stock atm LOL then why are you saying you are running 50c on idle with stock settings in your OP? Please don't lie to us if you want help from us... We can't troubleshoot the issue if we don't get the real facts...
kaaay
clearly you dont understand when i had it oc it was ideal 50.c i checked today and stock ideal was around 40.c i dont know what changed. But right now im o/c it and my load temps are 90.c on small ftts normal?
kaaay
but anyways stock 920 when i checked today was around 40 ideal. I started to O/C again im at 4ghz and is 90.c normal for small fft prime 95?
parsec
Frankly, we (or just me) don't know what you mean by ideal.

peanutz94
Kaaay, could you please explain again what it is your asking? I'm sorry but im in the same boat as the others when you refer to "ideal"temps. If you could give us your exact temps for your OVERCLOCKED setup. Temps at idle and temps at load plz. Did I tighten it to much? Think it's not touching? Should I rotate it 90 and reapply past? I turned it finger tight or should it be just tight enough with out putting your strength in it? Thanks for the help. Is that temp normal ? Finger tight should be plenty tight enough. If the block was not touching the CPU would have shut down minutes if not seconds after start up. And rotating the block wont have any affect unless the block was touching capacitors on the MB keeping the block from completely contacting the CPU. P.S. Can you keep your querys to one thread. It would really be easier to follow just one.thx
Geeros
Lol what he means is not oc the cpu temp is 50oc when clocked to 4ghz 90oc I would replace the paste get good quality one, how do you apply the paste? Also where have you place the radiator and have he fans been set to push or pull.
kaaay
Sorry been working idle = ideal my bad spelling lmao rad is on top of my case push/pull pulling air out of my case. I think it's touching the capacitors on my dx58so I ordered some ic diamond 7 should be in Friday. I apply it in a line as thats wat intel says is the best for i7. Right now I'm o/c again at 4ghz and I'm running 50.c idle temp that was my regular temp with my mugen2 at idle. So when I get te new stuff I'll repaste it and rotate it hopefully see results. peanutz94
The x58 MB are not affected by the capacitor issue. If it were sitting on the caps you would be alot higher than 50c at idle. The cpu would most likely heat up and shut down in seconds. From what i can gather with your OC, that is just how hot your CPU is going to run. I have the same chip and got the same kind of temps with an h-50. It was only after getting a custom loop i was able to get a hold of the temps and get them down to a 35-38c range. Is your CPU a C0 stepping or D0? C0 will generally run hotter than the D0's
kaaay
so i figured it out my h100 wasn't sitting fully on my cpu only half was touching it redid it with new paste temps dropped down 6-9.c very happy. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/848/photo1ag.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/716/photovsb.jpg/
