Force Series 3 120 GB - Bootmgr is missing

a couple of hours ago i was sitting on the internet when suddelny my computer froze up, it didn't react for about 10 minutes, so i did a manual reboot by pressing the powerbutton. when the computer then tried to start up i got the error message that "bootmgr is missing"

now, o did manage to get the computer running and working, but something rather strange has occured.

First of all, my SSD doesn't show up in BIOS. and i have my windows installed on it. But i does however show up in "my computer" and all the programs seems to be working fine.

My other hard drive is a 640GB caviar black SATA 2, and that one seems unaffected by the crash.

However, My third hard drive, my external hardrive seems to have undegone som rather strange things..

before the crash, it was labelled "F", but after the crash, the computer has configured a fourth hard drive, called "reserved by the system" and labelled that one "F" while my external hard drive is now labelled "H".. the new "F" hard drive is supposedly about 100MB big, and is filled upp by somethin that is about 68MB, the strange thing is, when i open that "reserved by the system" har drive, it only contains a empty folder called "downloaded"... even when i "show all hiden files" nothing seems to be on there...

so, what i want help with is.. should i update the firmware for the SSD so that it can be found in the BIOS, and after that, would it be safe for me to delete the "reserved by the system" hard drive? and if i did, would that destroy my internal working harddrive, or my external one?

thank in advance for any kind of help!

The new "F" drive should be the System Reserved files. You won't be able to see it as the files inside the partition are actually system files. I won't recommend you to delete the Reserved Partition as it may corrupt your OS. It will not destroy any internal components in the HD/SSD. You should be able to change the Drive letter from Disk Management.

EDIT.

I tried to use the windows disc to repair the start up of windows, but it didn't do anything since there was nothing wrong with the startup according to the test...

is there any way of doing a full repair of windows using the disc? that way i should be able to delete the the created "F" drive...don't you think?

From my own personal experience, I would never rely to Windows repair function. Whenever I had issues and tried to fix it, repair function failed.

Normally this System Reserved Partition will be created during Windows installation, it is hidden and it gets not drive letter assigned. It would be good to know to which drive (SSD, HDD, external HDD) your new created "F" drive is located to.

You can check at Windows Disk Management. Go to "Control Panel" -> "Management" -> "Computer Management" -> "Data Storage" -> "Disk Management". I'm not sure about the correct naming because I'm using a german language version of Windows 7. But it should be similar.

but how come it shows?

This is something I cannot tell you, simply because I don't know. I guess you don't know for sure if this partition existed beforehand? Did you clone your OS from another drive or was it a clean installation?

You could do the following:

- Go to "Disk Management", right-click on your "F" drive, select "Change drive letters" and "Remove".

well, like you said, i can't be 100% sure that it didn't show before, simply because i never noticed it, i just noticed it because it changed drive letter to "F", wich used to be my external drive (of that i am 110% sure)...

when i installed windows 7 the first time, it was a completly clean installation an the new SSD, and my i formatted my old 640GB drive as well...

do you mean i should delete my "F" drive like in the external (since i changed the letters) or du you mean i should delete my "H" drive, wich is the one that is newly? created..?

If this was a clean installation, then the system reserve partition must have been created during that installation. But I don't know what happened that this partition got a drive letter assigned.

If you have changed the drive letters in the meantime, then it would be drive "H". But do not delete the entire partition, just delete the assigned drive letter. You will need the system reserve partition because Bootmanager is located there.
