P128 - Good Writes, Poor Reads

EDIT: Good reads, bad writes!

Hi guys,

I have a P128 (latest FW) that seems to be having terrible problems with writes. I started digging around trying to figure out why my SC2 replays were extremely choppy and it somehow led me here.

I'm running in AHCI mode and I've also done some basic things like making sure write caching was enabled, drive not set for removal, etc. I'm not entirely sure what storage controller driver I have, but I can check if someone explains where I can find that. Even so, it seems my write scores are extremely bad even if I do happen to not have the ideal driver. I'm running Win7 x64 with an ASUS P6T SE motherboard.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Are you using the Intel controller on your MOBO or the Marvell controller? The Intel controller is by far the better of the 2. The Marvell controllers are bugged and do not do very well in real usage or in benchmarks. Post an ATTO screenshot. We do not validate our SSDs with those other benches, only with ATTO.

Here's the ATTO results. Seems to be quite a bit better here. How come the results very so much between the different tests?

My motherboard doesn't have a Marvell controller but a JMicron controller, I believe. I've disabled the JMicron controller, so I'd have to assume I'm on Intel.

  • 4 months later...

I know this is a really old thread but I finally got around to running GParted on my P128 to see if it would increase the performance. As you can see the writes are now much closer to my writes (compared to the snapshot a few posts back).
