Adash123
Just in case, I thought this might be usefull if anyone is contemplating an X79build with a Corsair H80. I had to find out the hard way and now have to order another 2x4GB low profile RAM sticks. I already had 12GB Vengence and bought 2x4GB extra so I could use 4 x4GB and possibly upgarde to 24GB with another 2 X2 GB later on. Did the build last night and the radiator block basicaly sits right on top of the first RAM module heatsink on my MSI G65 8D Mobo. I couldn't fit on the second fan so was stuck with a push only config (intake flow config) and an obvious overheating RAM risk. I have had to order another 2x4Gb for the left side memory slots. Yey...Corsair get another £40 from me. I know this is an X79 issue, but why Corsair aren't adding a (2011* Requires low profile memory modules) onto their H80 compatibility specs is beyond me. This is obviously an issue with potentialy most if not every X79 build with an H80 but I think many people like me will asume that "2011 compatible" means just that. Not, "yes, but you'll need to buy special low profile memory..." Anyway...hope some might find this usefull.
mkoniako
Same thing for me with my Asus 2011/X79 MB and H80. Luckily (due to swedish law) I could return the 4x4Gb Vengence even though I had opened the package and get the low profile ones. The inner fan on the H80 is in the way for the 3 left memory slots. Had been nice if it was stated on the H80, at least that "it might require" low profile memories. Max memory hight for 3 left memory slots, is for me about 47mm /Koniak
G50EED
I've been mentioning this myself. Rather than opt for the low profile RAM I decided to switch to the H100 cooler instead and I will sell my H70 (original) on eBAY.
parsec
Well guys, I know it's annoying, but RAM clearance issues have been with us with many large air-cooled CPU coolers for a long time, and warnings about clearance from the manufactures is rarely seen. We're stuck with this with X79 boards, so we better get used to it. If the RAM manufactures are selling memory sets for these boards with tall heatsinks, then they are not paying attention, and the return rate will be huge. I just checked Corsair's quad channel memory offerings, and most of them have tall heatsinks, although some are removable. No mention of special sizes for clearance. As always, the devil is in the details.

They are! Thats why they came out with the LP Vengeance line. I guess you just cant make everyone happy at the same time. You have people that like the tall heat spreaders and the ones who dont. One works for one person and not for another. Too many variables in PC components for EVERY piece to be compatible with another. You just need to do your homework before building, thats all

Too many variables in PC components for EVERY piece to be compatible with another. You just need to do your homework before building, thats all The X79 is a different issue due to the placing of the DIMM slots on either side. Sure, a tower cooler install needs carefull measuring, but a water cool kit? They advertise the Corsair H80 as being X79 compatible knowing full well most of their memory modules won't fit under it. You're right in that there are usualy many variables - every system is different, but with this, the H80 is just not going to fit on most if not all X79 builds unless special low profile memory is used. I don't mind LP heatsinks, but I do mind having to buy memory twice in 1 week because there was no heads up. And that's all I'm asking for. A heads up.That's not too much to ask for when they know it is going to be an issue for many of us.
peanutz94
I agree with you to a point. But in your case it's more of a case issue. A larger or different case would more than likely fit without a problem. The actual pump head fits fine and clears with out issue. Again , it's hard to make sure that all aftermarket kits are going to work with any given piece of hardware. Maybe a little note on the box or something would help. If anything to serve as a reminder to do your homework and measure clearances before hand
Synomenon
I have this issue now. I have four 8GB Vengeance sticks. Just got an ASUS Rampage IV Gene. My case is a SilverStone FT03. None of the tower style heatsinks will work since they will block the Vengeance sticks when fans are mounted to them. My Corsair H80 won't work either since it'll block the top two Vengeance sticks when the fans are mounted. Don't know what to do now. The only option I can find w/o ditching my 32GB of Vengeance RAM, motherboard or case is to use a low-profile heatsink like a Cooler Master GeminII S 524 or one of Zalman' s flower style heatsinks and these types of heatsinks would go against the airflow in my case. Wired
The Dominator heatsinks also have removable heatspreaders at the top.
parsec
Most if not all of the X79 mother board reviews I've seen mention the potential clearance issue, given the DIMM slots on both sides of the CPU socket. The H60 would also likely have a clearance issue with tall DIMMs. Don't forget that Intel now offers a liquid CPU cooler very similar to the Corsair H-series and others, for their socket 2011 CPUs, which will also have this issue. The compatibility statement for the H-series coolers refers to their use with socket 2011 CPUs, they will fit on the new, larger sockets. After market CPU coolers have always had clearance issues with some DIMMs, but the X79 platform is the worst case situation in that regard. verne
Another solution is to mount one of the intake fan on outside of the casing, radiator + 1 fan on the inside. that should leave some space on the left RAM slots. I have the vengeance Rams installed (4 x 4GB) and it worked just fine.
