Murlorc
I recently purchased a Corsair H60 water cooler. I am attempting to install it on my computer but am having "boot issues". I suspect when i connect the water cooler to the cpu via the mounting bracket, contact is not being made which is preventing my computer from booting up. I have a nvidia 680i mobo (socket 775), and a Antec P182 case. The case did not have holes through the mobo for the rear mounting bracket so i drilled holes though my case. I got everything mounted fine but it would not boot. I reinstalled the stock cooler and it booted. I tried reinstalling the water cooler and it would not boot. I uninstalled all the mounting hardware for the cooler and surfaced mounted the cooler directly to the cpu, applied firm pressure to it by hand and turned on my computer. It booted no problem. I tried reinstalling with all the mounting hardware and yet again it would not boot. I suspect something with the mounting hardware is causing a gap between the cooler and cpu. Any help would be appreciated.
curiousclive
Do not understand why you had to drill holes for mounting back plate as every motherboard that I have seen has them already drilled in motherboard to fit original fan coolers. ( no need for holes in case as backplate should fit direct to back of motherboard and mount posts screwed into that to hold it in place), May need to slide the nuts along slot to line up with motherboard holes. Also may need to remove motherboard to fit backplate if no access hole in case to allow fitting without removal. Check you are using the correct mounting hardware for a 775 socket. Can google for a U-tube video that shows how it is fitted for extra help.
Murlorc
Let me clarify that my 680i motherboard does indeed have the 4 holes for mounting the stock cpu HSF or the mounting bracket. My first issue was with my p182 case. When i take the back panel off, the motherboard is not bare on the backside. The motherboard attachs to a plate. I drilled 4 holes through this plate so that I could put the mounting bracket for the H60 on from behind. Should I be completely removing my motherboard from my case in order to put the H60 mounting bracket on the backside of the motherboard? This would be a similiar photo of what the inside of the back panel of my case looks like:

Mounting a CPU cooler's backplate on the mother board tray is simply never done, although that you managed to do so is quite a feat. I'm not sure why the PC fails to boot with the backplate mounted as you had it, but the backplate really must be mounted to the mother board.
