Asus P7P55D Deluxe boot fail with CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9

Hi reader,

I recently bought an 8gb memory kit, the CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9.

I'm trying to fit it on an Asus P7P55D Deluxe motherboard, but my system fails the POST and the memOK led lights continuously.

before I bought the set I assumed it would work just fine because I've seen it work on a similar motherboard (the ASUS P7P55D-E EVO).

Maybe I'm wrong and it DOES work with my motherboard but I'm not sure.

First of, I've read some similar threads on this forum about people with the same problem. I notice they had problems with a 'CMX' type of the memory. I'm trying it out with the 'CMZ', what's the diffrence?

Secondly, some posts in those threads suggested to switch the modules and to test each dimm at a time and such. I've tried this and noticed that if I put one memory module in "A1" of my mother board, my system starts to beep as if there's no memory. when I try just "B1" the system won't beep, but of course, the memOK led is on. I also tried holding the memOk button to make the memory compatible with my cpu, but this didn't work.

I've never been able to start up my system and get into the bios, because i can't pass the POST. But I've already tried to reset my bios.

I really don't know what might be wrong now, so my questions are:

- Is this type of memory compatible with my motherboard?

- If it's a matter of speed, is there a way to downclock the RAM? or OC my CPU?

- Is my motherboard broken in some way? The fans are working just fine though.

- Any other suggestions or possible solutions?

Thanks for your suggestions everyone.

Yes, I've tried it with just one stick. When the stick is in slot A1, my system starts beeping as if there's no memory found. But it's in there correctly for sure, so what's up with that?

Also, I'm not sure about the latest BIOS, I've never updated a BIOS before I heard it could go wrong badly. How would I be able to update the bios? Because I can't enter my system in any way because the POST fails.

Edit: I'd like to know if this type of memory is compatible with the Asus P7P55D Deluxe before I take further actions.

Thanks for ur reply.

What about the other stick? Does it do the same thing?

I used to kind of sketchy years ago and yes if it went badly, it could render a MB useless. However, it's a pretty painless operation these days and the chances of them going wrong are REALLY slim. You can find the latest BIOS for your MB on ASUS's site. Look up your MB and they will be under the "downloads" tab . A BIOS update can cure alot of problems including memory issues.

All you need to do is follow the directions for the EZ flash method which uses a USB stick.

Yes it's compatible. But if neither of those sticks work , then i would look for other problems. Could be a bad DIMM slot , CPU, or MB.

@Peanutz94

What about the other stick? Does it do the same thing?

Yes, both modules fail in slot A1. Might be a bad slot indeed, I'll check the cpu again maybe there's something wrong there.

@emkay.

Interesting, so i'm not the only one. if you put one module in A1 does your system beep as well?

That makes it sound like the memory controller that is located in the CPU could be at fault.

But before blaming either the MB or the CPU it might be worth pulling the CPU out of the socket and look at the pins to see if any are bent or out of line with the others. That would also produce the same symptoms. If all looks good , i would contact ASUS and talk to them. At this time i can not see any reason to blame the memory. While it is possible to get a bad stick in a kit every now and then, to get two bad sticks is pretty much impossible.

And do you have any other memory laying around that would work in that MB ? That would at least give you a way to flash the BIOS to rule that out as well.

@ emy

While it is the same MB and memory the turn out could be something entirely different. To keep things from getting confused between the two issues, could you start your own thread plz?

My goodness, I took a good look at my dimm slots and it looks like there's a very small thing in between slot A1, it looks like solder. I've never seen it earlier.

This would explain why modules in slot A1 aren't recognized. But this is a big problem, it's very small and I can't get it out of there. It's like stuck. Is this a manufacturing defect?

I have this motherboard since february or so and since then I've been buying computer parts until this month - I didn't have enough money to buy everything at once - so the store where i bought it won't accept it right?

How can i solve this problem - or get a new motherboard?

Also, aside from slot A1, B1 (which looks fine), is still not accepted I've checked my cpu but it looks fine and so does the socket.

Thansk for your replies.

It appears on Corsairs list of compatible kits! So , Corsair has tested them even if ASUS did not.

Even if it does not appear on a QVL does not mean it's incompatible. It just means that that specific part number was or has not been tested on that specific MB. Spec alone would be enough though to say they are compatible.

There is just no way a MB manufacturer can test ALL DDR3 modules with their MB's. Way too many on the market.

If you want an official confirmation, you can wait for RAMGUY to post his comments. But i dont see any need to return the memory.

I've never been able to start up my system and get into the bios, because i can't pass the POST. But I've already tried to reset my bios.

This is the biggest reason i believe it's the MB. At least one module out of the kit should let it post. Since it is not it has to be the MB. Sadly they do show up DOA on occasion.

Ok, thank you everyone. I'll just return my MB and hope for a new one / get it repaired.

Also I might just return my memory just in case and because I now still can. I'd be able to purchase the modules later when my motherboard returns.
