oiluj
Hi all! I already own a 4GB kit named TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF. It consists on 2 modules named CM2X2048-8500C5D (2x Dominator 2GB DDR2-1066 or PC2-8500, 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1V) My MB is an Asus P5K-Premium WiFi-AP (Intel P35 Chipset) and I would like to know, before buying, if a second 4GB kit would work on my system, making a total of 8GB. It would be 4x2GB modules, all memory slots populated. I would buy them IDENTICAL to the ones I already have ("[...] 2.1V ver1.1" on sticker) Will it work? Thank you!!!! peanutz94
You can try what you like, but it's never recommended or supported to mix memory. Even two kits of the identical part number have a great chance of not working together or at rated speeds. So two identical kits can be incompatible with each other. You are better off buying a new set of the capacity you want.
oiluj
What about tweaking some voltages and/or other settings at the BIOS? I repeat that I would buy another pair of the MOST IDENTICAL POSSIBLE modules ("[...] 2.1V ver1.1" on sticker) Of course, it would be better if I could use them as DDR2-1066 (as now) by tweaking some of those voltages/settings, but... What about lowering speed setting to DDR2-800??

I repeat that I would buy another pair of the MOST IDENTICAL POSSIBLE modules ("[...] 2.1V ver1.1" on sticker) Apart from the sticker , that is the only thing that would be identical. Corsair uses 9 different IC's in their DIMMS and they can be swapped out at any given time. So even the same exact part number with the same revision, can be totally different from the previous set. Of course, it would be better if I could use them as DDR2-1066 (as now) by tweaking some of those voltages/settings, but... What about lowering speed setting to DDR2-800?? You can try both! Add a little NB voltage or try lowering the frequency
oiluj
I found a thread in the Asus forums that tells to: - Raise Memory Voltage from 2.1 to 2.2V - Raise NorthBridge Voltage from 1.1V to 1.4V but do not put it more than 1.4V Is that "correct"? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 8, 2011 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 8, 2011 Memory Voltage is printed on the label of the modules and will not be more than 2.1 Volts MAX. and I would only add .1 Volts at a time to the memory controller Voltage (NorthBridge Voltage from 1.1V). Only add what you need to make the system stable.
oiluj
I finally bought another pair of matched modules, being "2.10V ver1.2" (previous ones are "2.1V ver1.1") and.... THEY WORK!!!!!! I tested with MemTest86+ 2.11 till one full pass was finished (almost 1h30min). I played with Crysis 2 for a while, and also made Aida64's "stress memory" test for a while... with NO problems. Any other test I could perform to be 100% sure that they are working good all together?
