GA-X58A-OC and CMP12GX3M3A1600C9

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I've recently purchased a Gigabyte GA-X58A-OC motherboard and a new SSD, but i'm looking to save money where I can and would like to re-use my current components as much as possible.

I have Corsair CMP12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB (3x4GB) Dominator DDR3 ram that I would like to use on this board; but the tested voltage for this is 1.65v and the motherboard's recommended voltage is 1.5v. This particular flavour of RAM is not in the supported vendors list.

I did notice that the SPD voltage for the ram is 1.5v; and I believe SPD is the standard or recommended operating voltage? I'm not sure on this one I couldnt find a noob definition for SPD.

So, I guess my question is:

Is this ram compatible with my new motherboard? and is it just a matter of configuring the BIOS to make it work?
