Can someone please suggest why the write speeds seem to be capped at around 235MBps and the read speeds are also less than they should be for SATA3?

That's why, with X58 you're probably better off using the Intel sata II ports in most cases.

Because Marvel SATA3 controllers on X58 aren't so great?

 

Because Marvell controllers aren't so great. X58 just doesn't have any native Sata III ports like the newer 1155 chipsets. The Marvell controller is most likely hanging off the ICH10R southbridge on a single PCIe x1 link as well.

Here is an update to my previous post. I removed my Adaptec 6805e controller and installed an Areca 1880i SATA/SAS 6Gbps controller... man what a difference. I am running 2x Corsair Force GT's in RAID 0.
