Question about Temps with overclocking

Recommended Posts

Ok so I recently decicded to skip out on liquid cooling, I then went to thinking about the H50, but then it turns out thats not even safe with liquid. So im going with air cooling. I do know that liquid cools well and all, but ok ill put it this way, say I'd want to get the Air series A70 Dual-Fan CPU cooler, now my processor is a i5 2500k (Sandy bridge) and its stock speed is 3.3 GHz. Say id want to overlock it to... about 3.7 or MAYBE higher if stable. I think air isnt good enough for that.. but, anyone know some temps on a i5 with air cooling? Or anything clocked to 3.6+ with air cooling?

With the SB chips being much les power hungery than all of the 1366 socket i7's, you can almost hit 4.0Ghz on air. Alas, it all depends on your chip and how much voltage you have to give the core. But 4.0 Ghz on air has been done without reaching critical limits.
