sprstock
Over a year ago I won a Gigabyte GA-EX58 Extreme motherboard online. When my current computer went down I decided to finally build another system using this motherboard. I started assembling parts and bought 3 packages of 2 4GB Corsair RAM CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 (24 GB) at the recommendation of the tech at the computer supply store. I did not double check this RAM against the list of supported RAM at the Gigabyte website. Apparently he misread his reference materials or the materals were wrong as this RAM does not work with this motherboard. It is opened and non-returnable. Since I won this motherboard, have nothing in it, it is over a year old and USB 3.0 and SATA 600 are now available, a newer motherboard with those features that would work with the RAM I bought would be an option I'd like to consider. Is there a list available of motherboards this RAM will fit? Thanks.
BlueByte01
Here you go : http://www2.corsair.com/configurator/ Also , you might wanna go to the motherboard provider's website - under downloads (or something) and download from them a Memory VQL list Its a list of tested memory on that specific board. So pretty much , go find a board that you like , download the Memory VQL list , and check. Simple as that, enjoy. Cheers!
Wired
There's no guarantee that 2 unmatched kits would work together let alone three. Best to find a different use for the memory and get ONE proper kit that meets your needs. Personally I'd ask for a manager at the store as they clearly sold you the wrong memory. sprstock
I bought this at Fry's and my previous experience with them and returns or any Customer Service problem is they are severely lacking in that department. I've had other return problems and they simply say their policy is such and such and walk away. Writing their management has proven fruitless in those cases, so I am anticipating a like response in this case. I do have a question. Do they make matched sets equaling 24GB? With this board, looking at Gigabyte's list of RAM, the largest module is 2GB so the max I could fit would be 12GB. I do pretty heavy 3D graphics so 24GB would be desirable. This is why I was looking for a list of motherboards that it might fit so I could at least try to get three sets to work. A configurator would be helpful if I knew what boards it would fit, but with the number of boards out there, all the different names, models and releases, finding one would be pure luck and trying to find one that way would probably only give me a fraction of the motherboards that it would fit. I've tried to use the support at Corsair, but the way it is set up I keep ending up on a page that wants me to send the RAM back for an exchange. Thanks for your help. sprstock
If I could find a reverse configurator, that would be great. A configurator would be helpful if I knew what boards it would fit, but with the number of boards out there, all the different names, models and releases, finding one would be pure luck and trying to find one that way would probably only give me a fraction of the motherboards that it would fit. I have to think Corsair would be able to provide such a list, but their support site doesn't seem to support asking questions. I keep ending up on a page wanting to provide me with an RMS to enable an exchange. Thanks for your help.
Wired
The configurator linked to above lets you search for either systems, motherboards, or memory, and tells you which of the others is compatible. I believe this is the "reverse" configurator option you are looking for. Your Search Results for the CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 24 GB kit: http://www.corsair.com/cmp24gx3m6a1600c9.html
sprstock
Thanks everyone for your help. Using the configurator I was able to find motherboards that would accept the RAM. Unfortunately, they are all AMD processor boards. I guess its off to eBay to get rid of it.
