melzer
I'm looking to replace the existing 12gig 1066 memory in my i7 920 Alien Aurora with Dominator® GT 12GB Kit CMT12 (CMT12GX3M3A2000C9). I am currently running the clock @ 158Mhz and getting max of 3.5 Ghz with factory voltage settings. The memory is now @ 1264Mhz with no increase in voltage. :sigh!: I don't use my computer for gaming, but rather for high demand graphic intensive and database work. I really don't want to go insane with overclocking and want system stability, but I can also use the processing power and speed. Will I be able to take advantage of the Dominator® GT 2000Mhz frequency with the i7 920? thanks, Melz
Wired
No way to tell without trying to OC higher. Also, knowing your motherboard would help as well, because it may not have the capability to run memory that fast.

I haven't opened the case yet to check the MB, all Dell will tell me is that it's a "Dell branded" motherboard. The motherboard ID is quite generic. model: 0H869M serial number: CN697029AJ0898 version: A00 I suspect there's not a whole lot to be learned from this. After I open the case I'll post the motherboard/mfg. thanks, Melz
melzer
I opened the case and aside from several Alienware Head logos directly stamped on the MB and other hardware, there are no identifying numbers or manufactuer info. I did find the following memory specs in the manual. However, since this manual was published in 2009, it didn't list any 2000Mhz modules (maybe they were not available in 2009??) Based on this information, what's your take on this regarding compatibility with 2000Mhz frequency? thanks, Melz -------------------------- Memory Connectors six internally-accessible DDR3 DIMM sockets Capacities 1 GB, 2 GB, and 4 GB Memory types 1066 MHz and I333 MHz DDR3 1600 MHz XMP 1066 MHz and I333 MHz Minimum 3 GB Maximum 24 GB 1600 MHz XMP Minimum 3 GB Maximum 12 GB (one DIMM module per memory channel)
