Thunder350
Please don't flame me if this has already been reported/discussed as I am just trying to help. I just got the HS1 and had the same low audio on my mic. I have only tested this with skype's echo service and had positive results. Here is what i did: Win7 --> Recording devices in windows --> Properties on the mic --> Enhancements tab --> Checked Low Frequency Protection --> Checked Loudness Equalization --> Click Apply It was MUCH louder for me after that. This fixed my issue of people not being able to hear me, saying my mic sounded like crap. After people said I was crystal clear. I spent weeks with this issue, been watching these forums waiting for a fix, and finally you delivered! People would say my mic was garbled and they could barely hear me, only heard static, or it was muffled. After changing those two things it worked fine. I had the issue in all source games + mods that I tried it in, Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2, and ventrilo. And when I would test the mic in any of those programs, it would always sound perfect to me. Now it sounds perfect to everyone!
thewird
^ If that is the problem, then Windows XP does not have those options. So we need a driver fix either way. thewird
csemoses
Hrm, I think i tried one of those options, before I RMA'd my headset. I'm wonderin if that would have fixed it? Ah well, corsair should be sending another set back soon. We'll see. This fixed my issue of people not being able to hear me, saying my mic sounded like crap. After people said I was crystal clear. Well I can assure you it still sounds trash in source games all my friends say the mic is terrible I have recorded the mic in sound forge using different settings, I have tried all other systems xp, vista. This is not a guaranteed fix, it is a driver fix that is needed because it is not just a windows 7 issue. People are still waiting for a fix. I must apologise please accept my humble apology my mic now works perfect after also trying these settings I must have done it wrong first time I tried it. I can now confirm the mic works perfectly clear in all source games and everything else voice recordings, ventrilo etc. Very well done for trying these settings. I dont see them at the moment, but i'm not using my HS1, it's at Corsair... who btw today sent an email saying they need an additional 5 days for warranty replacement items... erk! Wired
Windows 7: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound Sound -> Recording Tab -> Select Mic and then hit the properties button. If you don't see the enhancements tab in there, check out the headset's properties under the Playback tab.

Thank you very much!!! I now come in loud and clear in games. I still need to have the mic level at 100%. But everyone can here me quite well now. No need to RMA a second time! I'm sure this will work until an updated driver is available.

I guess it'll be there when i've got the corsair installed, without the soundblaster?
hamzta
The headset would be perfect if only the software was FUNCTIONAL i.e. doesnt randomly switch left with right or front with rear while watching a movie or a game. And if you could change volume of the headset and windows INDIVIDUALLY.
csemoses
/rant Well, i just got my spankin' new RMA'd corsair HS1 returned to me. I installed em, and immediately tried a windows sound recorder recording, mic volume maxed. I was quiet again. D'oh! Soooo... I tried the Low Frequency Protection, and Loudness Equalization as mentioned above. I sound great now. I've even turned DOWN the mic volume to 80%, and (using windows sound recorder) am still nice n loud n clear. I'll have to find the sweet spot. Wow, just wow. I can't believe Corsair let this one slip through the QC / R&D of the software. Either I've got SUCH a deep voice (i kinda do, when talking on a headset) that this headset thinks it's gonna blow up and therefore quiets me, or corsair was silly and should have these settings enabled by default. Are all the other folks that complain of mic issues male? I wonder if I turn OFF the LFP and Loudness EQ, if my wife would sound OK on here? Hrm... Either way, my mic now sounds normal. Woohoo! My free headset only cost me $22, corsair wasted their RMA department's time by auto-RMA'ing instead of doing root cause analysis on this issue... and hopefully we can ALL learn from this, eh? Someone needs to give igl007 a hero cookie. Seriously. Corsair should thank him in a big way. I still cant beleive this was missed by R&D at corsair :( come on guys, IMHO i expect better from the brand of Corsair, be it audio, RAM, cooling, whatever. I really do expect top notch goods, attention to detail, etc. from Corsair. Doesnt everyone that's buying 'em? That's why I bought an 800D, and own an F120 (which has a 30 second boot delay, btw with firmware 2.0), and own HS1s. /rant ;) Also, someone really, really should sticky the solution to this problem in this forum. quick update on mic volume levels after enabling the LFP and Vol EQ: I did some test recordings trying to speak in a normal gaming voice, and ended up lowering the mic volume all the way down to 40%. Wow.... 30% was a little quiet, but not too bad. 40% seems to be the money spot. Maybe 45.
ykp
Would anyone have some instructions for making these adjustments in Window XP? I search from control panel to the Corsair software and still have these issues. I emailed Corsair, but they never responded, very disappointing. LaRSin
Here's something that I find weird about the software , It's advertised as a gaming headset , but there's know presets for games, Just music , Yes there's a equalizer and you can set it up the way you want, But since it is advertised as a gaming set you would think they would have added some presets for gaming and then you just adjust from there. Something they actually tried experimented with and thought would be the best for that game , You know put some thought into it... Maybe thats something they can add in future updates, But since mine has been sent in for exchange for analog it won't make any difference to me,, But it's just a thought. Those presets are for up-converting stereo to 5.1 or 7.1. The idea is that your games should play in 5.1 or 7.1 already. As well, "gaming headset" usually refers to headphones with an attached mic. safe10
i dont use any presets i just use bass eq and a little mid and treble. set the headset to either stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and your good to go, forget about all the virtual dolby, 7.1 crap that makes you sound like your set in the bath, when youve set it go look on you tube for 5.1 or 7.1 sound tests theres a few on there that show you that you are getting the correct sound, ive gone from hating these hs1s to loving em, after no help from corsair cause they are a waste of space when it comes to customer service, in the end it was igl007 who helped solve the mic problem, cheers m8. csemoses
i agree with safe10. Dont use the virtual stuff that makes it sound like you're in a bathroom. Terrible really. Using it in 7.1 mode though makes it sound GREAT. Thanks again, igl007, you saved this product for me!

Ralphie36
Can we assume all efforts to modify drivers for the HS1 have now been abandoned? Has Corsair backed off work on driver requests because one diligent user (thanks igl007) provided a temporary workaround? Customer Service. Anybody remember what that is? Meanwhile, I've enjoyed Corsair products for years with little complaints so when I finally decided to drop more than a couple bucks on a decent headset but I must say that I'm disappointed so far with my experience and with what I've read in the HS1 forums here. I'm wishing now I'd read these before my purchase. I'm glad igl007's workaround is good for most folks. My results were marginal. Yes, it increased my mic volume some but the mic still doesn't have the power of my cheap headphones and I still have complaints of 'muffled' and 'too quiet' from gaming buddies. This shouldn't be the case with a headset costing 5 times the cheap stuff with the build quality of these units. At this point the different results we're all getting is obviously due to the varied sound card hardware we're punching our HS1s into. I've not seen a 'compatibility list' from Corsair for the HS1 so for those few that have posted here: What's your hardware setup? Are you using on-board sound? Sound Card? What type? Feedback from anyone that used igl007's settings and got great results would be nice. Another for the Corsair folks: If you're not working the driver issues because you can't duplicate the problem in the lab then what's your setup? Thanks all!
