650TX install in Lian-Li LIAN LI PC-A05NB

I just installed a 650TX power supply in a LIAN LI PC-A05NB case and I'm not sure if I have it installed upside down or not. Yes, I know this sounds silly.....

The power supply installs at the bottom of this case, directly below the hard drive bays. The bottom of the hard drive bay has vent holes, and the top of the power supply, where the fan is currently positioned, almost touches the bottom of the hard drive bay. The pc case comes with a mounting bracket that attaches the power supply to the front of the pc case. The mounting bracket does not appear to be directionally dependent. There is also a small bracket in the pc case that elevates the power supply about 1/2" off the bottom of the case.

My question is whether or not the power supply will get enough air easily, so, should the power supply fan be facing up or down in this pc case?

Any advice will be appreciated.

The fan on the PSU pulls air into the unit and then pushes it out the back. On my bottom mounted case I have the PSU fan facing in towards the motherboard. This pulls air down and out of the case. If your case has vents on the bottom then I think it would be safe to face the PSU fan down (towards the ground). I still think its better to have the fan open to the rest of the case as it will help with overall airflow.

Note the upside-down PSU here

Many thanks for your reply to my question, and the picture helps me see what you mean. I will leave my PSU as it is installed now, as you suggest, with the fan facing into the case toward the motherboard.

I have been monitoring the various temps within the case and everything has been running well within acceptable limits.

Thanks again.

The PSU can be mounted with the fan face up or down in most cases. The only drawback to having the fan facing up is that it is more likely that something will drop into it through the fan grill. Just be careful about that and you should be fine.

  • 1 month later...
I have been running my PS upside down in this case (LIAN LI PC-A05NB) for around 8 months now and then today decided to mount it right side up with the fan facing down for the first time to see if it would help air flow and temps in my case. And to my surprise ALL the temps in my case were lowered by about 3c when benching with intelburn test and OCCT also when monitoring the PS voltages through OCCT found that it is more stable in this config. I have a Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W.
