barry2811
What is mean't by idle time in relation to garbage collection? I've seen some people saying you have to log off. Is it sufficient for the PC to just be idle? Would garbage collection kick in? I have my PC going to S3 standby after 30 minutes to save on the electric. Do I need to schedule some periods of leaving the PC logged off? If so, how often and how long would do the trick? I understand that the time required would vary depending on use, etc., but an idea of the time required would be appreciated. :)

What you are asking about applies only to the Samsung based P or Performance Series SSDs.

Thanks for replying. I have an F60. I was under the impression Sandforce based drives also had some form of garbage collection other than TRIM? The SandForce Recycler works while the drive is writing and does not need to be put into an idle state to function. There is some info on it available in the PDFs at the SandForce site.
