Cannot install win 7 on F120

Hi, I'm a noob so I have probably done something horribly horribly wrong but I don't know what.

I have just installed my new F120. In win 7 (64-bit) the disk seem to work just fine. I try to do a clean install of win 7 on the SSD and the install process hangs either

1. On one of the reboots (System shutting down... going on for hours) or

2. Some time during the step called "Installing features".

I have tried 3 times now with no success.

After connecting the disk i formatted it using win 7 (NTFS). I have firmware 2.0 on the ssd, and have just updated the bios.

Don't even know where to start, any help?

Thanks, guys.

Hi, I'm guessing its the sata controllers you are asking about. If not, tell me.

My bios says:

SATA drives

Chipset-SATA Controller Configuration

Chipset-SATA mode <RAID>

S.M.A.R.T <Enable>

Detected SATA Device: ST31500341AS

Detected SATA Device: Corsair CSSD-F120GB2

Detected SATA Device: Intel OS1

Detected SATA Device: P0-TSScorp ...

Discrete-SATA Controller configuration

Discrete-SATA <Enable>

Discrete-SATA Controller mode <IDE>

Detected Discrete SATA drive: ST31500341AS

Hard Disk Pre-Delay [0]

Hum...

I have, without trying to install win 7 again, set the SATA controller to both AHCI and IDE. In both instances windows will not load, "windows failed to start". See screenshot.

I already have my OS on two RAID 0 500 gb discs, so perhaps this is why everything else than RAID mode fails.

I'm at a loss here...

Again, thanks.

What Intel RAID driver are you adding at the the driver prompt?

Try this. Secure erase the SSD using Parted Magic. If you need it, there is a guide in our HOW TO section. Then, with ONLY the SSD installed, try your WIN 7 installetion again. You can add the other RAID array later. Be sure to add the RAID driver at the page where you are asked for drivers. DO NOT manually format. Allow WIN 7 to run the format itself automatically.

Intel RAID driver: How do I find out what driver I use? I never get to the driver prompt.....

Also: "Then, with ONLY the SSD installed, try your WIN 7 installetion again. You can add the other RAID array later." My 2 raid discs are the OS disc, and the SSD is empty. How do I disable all other discs than the SSD, and install Win 7? (Remember, me = noob).

Are you trying to clone your previous installation of Windows to the SSD or restore from an image or what?

As for disabling other disks, simply unplug the data and power cables.

EDIT: And do you have a DVD or an ISO copy of WIN 7?

I'm trying to do a clean install from my original DVD ([Custom (advanced)] option in one of the first install menus). I have read that is the best way to "move" my OS, but if you have a better idea, please inform me. I'll do whatever is the best way to run win 7 on my new ssd.

I have a DVD copy of Win 7.

You need to do this above. As for the Intel RAID driver, early in the WIN 7 install process, you have screen where you can make changes to your drives. One of the options is ADD DRIVERs. Intel provides a RAID driver that they call an "F6" driver or floppy driver. (Ignore the terminology names of F6 or floppy as they no longer apply to WIN 7.)

You can get this driver from your motheboard CD, from MOBO support, or directly from Intel.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I did the above thingies and now everything is running smoothly! Thanks a lot, you were a great help.

I have just one more simple question: I cannot change the controller mode from RAID to AHCI. I have

1. Done the registry fixes and then

2. Rebooted and

3. Changed bios controller mode from RAID to AHCI

but I get bluescreen when Windows launches. I also just have reinstalled the latest Intel storage drivers (did that too during clean win 7 install).

I read in another thread that there were no practical differences between RAID and AHCI, also regarding TRIM, can you confirm? (All my drives are now non-raid).

Thanks a lot.
