Martoof
Hello Everyone... I am in need of some advice please. I am close to ordering the components for my new computer build but I am wanting to go with liquid cooling for my CPU this time around. My build components are listed above in the drop down link. My question is...should I go with the H50 or the H70 for cooling? Bear in mind, I do not overclock...I run my rigs at stock speeds....and my main build for this is World of Warcraft (yeah...I know...I'm one of those peeps) and eventually Diablo 3. So would a H50 be sufficient for a stock Core i7 870 or should I go "better safe than sorry" and bump up to the H70 ? Thank you for any advice you may provide! moskwiz
If you won't be OCng then H50 should be more than enough =) If you wont be OCng, the 870's stock cooler should be enough too ;)
Martoof
Thanks Moskwiz... wasn't quite sure... I'm trying to go for as quiet a system as I can....searching out 120 mm fans with the lowest noise value...and sadly most of the cpu fans crank out a ton of noise... Thanks again for the advice....now time to decide between single or dual video cards....
moskwiz
btw in my experience the H series isn't very quiet at all.. That is unless you get a different fan(s) for it - default fans' duty cycle isn't controllable via BIOS/software - they're 1600-2000 rpm and for a 12cm fan that is loud, I should know - I've got the H70. So if you get some other fans you should be fine. gpu wise.. Depending on your budget I'd go for the 6970 that's coming out Q1, or if you don't want to spend that much, the 58xx series is getting really cheap now that 6xxx is up and coming.. So two 5850's would be awesome too

So two 5850's would be awesome too I'm considering swapping out my Coolermaster H520 for an H50 or H70, the H520 seems like the loudest fans (it uses 2 fans) in my system, + the rear case fan, but your saying the Corsair H series has loud fans. I just purchased 2 Enermax Magma Fans (1 replaced the rear case fan with) do you think it would be quieter, if I got an H50 or H70 and went Push/Pull Config using those 2 Magma fans? I would essentially be going from 3 fans to 2 (both pretty quiet) (P.S.) I have a I7 - 950 with no plans on OCing.
moskwiz
The H70 radiator is not built in a way that the air going through it makes a lot of sound, so if you replace the stock fans with BIOS/software controllable fans and get their speed down (at least for idle) it shouldn't make a lot of noise at all =) As for 3 vs 2 fans - the less the quieter ^^
Martoof
I have been doing more research after reading your notes Moskwiz...which gives me some news for myself and you too Howardpm... For both the H50 and H70....replace the stock fans that come with the cooling unit with Noctua 120 mm cooling fans....I found models NF-S12B and NF-P12 both for around $25 each on Newegg....also read quite a few reviews about them on the internet....they are some of the quietest fans you can buy that actually move air and can be controlled by BIOS settings.... Mosk....I agree with you on the video card part....sadly though I am trying to behave and keep my budget for a whole new system around $1000.00 while also pulling in a SSD for my OS. I might have to keep my single 5750 for now and see if the 5850's drop once the 69xx become more abundant. Thanks again guys....good stuff to keep the hamster wheel in my head going.... If you're going up from 5750, even a single 5850 would be almost twice the gamin power ^^ Or put another 15-20$ on it and you'll get a 6870.. Then later, when you get more money you can buy another 6870 for a powerful Xfire (2 6870's almost match a GTX580)

I think I have an issue with paying $25 for just a fan, I'll give the Enermax Magma ones a try and see how they do. Thanks for the tips.
