dave_reap
hey all, I have had 2x2x2x2 corsair dominators (v1.1 and 1.2 dual kits) running in my board for almost a year now without any problems at 1066 default and overclocked at various times up to 4ghz with no problems (board is gigabyte x48-ds5) last week my computer began hard locking and it took me a while to figure out what was doing it. If i remove half the ram down to 4gb it will work fine do 1066 etc no problem and overclock no problem with either kit in individually When I have the full 8gb in the comp will hard lock after 10/15 mins of cpu instensive tasks... The only way I can get the 8gb to run is to clock the memory right down to 667 in the bios and this seems to cure it... However this is rather annoying as I had it all running like a dream for almost a year The only settings in bios I have really changed are obviously the memory voltage to 2.1 and i have also increased the chipset (mch) by 0.2... Anyone any ideas whats changed? or suggest any tweaks i might make? Thanks, Dave ps memtest 86 is showing no errors in either kit or when the full 8gb is installed at 1066 running for over 24 hours

It may be that your previous setting was initially enough but, with a year of usage you need a bit more MCHv.
dave_reap
thanks for the quick reply.. Im not sure what the default setting is but as I say i was running it 0.2 of an increase over the top of that. What you said was my initial thought and I have attempted to push the mch voltage up by 0.3 and a slight increase on the cpu to see what would happen but its produced the same results.. i will list all my voltage settings later when i get home from work if you want to have a look... Thanks, Dave

Yellowbeard
Just for testing, set the memory frequency to DDR800 and see if it is stable.
chorner
Hey nice, I see we both have a set of 1.1 and 1.2 :) Trying to run the same as you, but on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P instead and with an X3370 which is of course the exact same CPU as yours. dave_reap
Ok i had it running prime 95 for 9 hrs + a few times and it seemed to be ok at that but it did the exact same lock on me again last night. Sees to be more prone to it when gaming... seems like its right on the edge on 800mhz to crash... hey chorner, I did have all 8gb on the same version as i bought it all together but when 1 kit went faulty i got it replaced and got a different version back :(.. wasnt too happy but corsair wouldnt budge either
vinark
Might seem as a strange suggestion but I had hardlocks too with certain ati catalyst versions (and 8gb though I never suspected my ram). Ati catalyst 10.6 to 10.10 were really not working here. It took me a time to realise of course (suspected my liquidmix since there was a new software version 3.0, my pc is used as a DAW).
