disrockerdude
Hi, i bought my power supply in August, bought it from newegg and put it into my system. Everything was working fine until today, When I came home from school with my computer turned off. I hit the power in my case and none. I checked the back for any plugs unplugged and they were all still plugged in. I opened my case up and checked the connections. I hit the power again and so a spark come out of the psu fan. I unplugged everything off of the wall and began to diagnose. I started with taking everything out of the case and set everything in a cardboard box. I hit the power and nothing, no fans spin or anything. I went ahead and stripped the whole system down to just the motherboard, cpu and ram. No post. I borrowed my buddys power supply and still no post. I went ahead and tested my power supply on his rig and it wouldnt post. I decided to test my components on his computer. I tested my video card on his and it wouldnt post. My CPU booted so that seemed intact, and so did my hard drives. So now I am left with what I believe is a toasted motherboard, psu, ram, and video card. The video card I can easily rma since I bought that recently and I have lifetime warranty on my ram. Im not too sure about my motherboard though. Is there anything I can do to test out my psu? Im pretty sure its dead since it wont even turn on with the paperclip test. any other suggestions I can do? I really need my system back up and running since finals are just around the corner.
disrockerdude
Well I went ahead and filed an rma, but I feel I only reached the automated reply as I already got approved and stuff. I can send in my psu today but I just want to know do I send my motherboard in too?
Wired
No, don't send your motherboard in. They weren't open when you filled out the RMA, so yes, it was probably an automated response :) After you get the RMA number, email / call into them and they'll set up a failure analysis RMA of the PSU to determine what happened. disrockerdude
well just a little update, i went ahead and did i think everything i had to do. I filled out a damage claim form and emailed it to one of the corsair employees. then i went ahead and sent in my power supply. a few days later after i confirmed the package was shipped by ups, i called them since i didnt get any updates. i was told that a new power supply was already being sent out to me. I thought "great" and asked about my damage claim. I mentioned the person whom i sent it to and i got transferred. We talked and he said that the technician claimed that my power supply was working fine. i thought that was weird because i had the power supply and no matter what i did the fan wouldnt spin, it wouldnt power on my motherboard or my buddies motherboard. plus there were visible burn marks on some of the cables. i thought how did the technician miss that? so now the person i talked to made notes about the burn marks and told me he will bring this up to the technician. because of this incident, (and yes i double checked my components) i am down a motherboard, video card and ram. i checked to see if it was a grounding issue in my case but i successfully powered an old pentium 4 motherboard in my case. i hope i get this resolved soon and dont get me wrong corsairs customer service has been great to me so far. i just want to know if i have to go and spend money to pretty much rebuild my rig. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2010 I would suggest calling in and speaking with the person you spoke with previously, I am sure they will try to get that worked out.
