DDR3 2000Mhz 8-8-8 and 8-9-8

Dear forum members,

I have an issue:

Since summer I am having 3x 2GB Crosair DDR3 2000Mhz 8-8-8-24

This memory runs with my I7 930 at DRAM Frequency 960Mhz.

It is working wonderful in my AsRock Extreme 3 Mainboard.

This week I have bought 3x 2GB Crosair DDR3 2000Mhz 8-9-8-24 to combine it with my first RAM that I will have 12GB.

I thought not the problem the faster CL ram runs slower at 8-9-8. Unfortunately my Mainboard doesn't run with that 8-9-8 RAM, it hangs and the settings are reset by the BIOS to the slowest frequency. I have given the CL timming manually but it doesn't work. It work neither alone 3xGB or in combination with 6x2GB.

With my older RAM it is no problem. I have also updated to the latest BIOS and have reloaded the BIOS default.

Is that RAM damaged?

Mixing of (two) RAM kits -even of the same part number - is not recommended nor guaranteed to work without issues per the Corsair Memory Upgrade Guide link in my signature. Corsair RAM needs to be purchased as ONE tested, matched RAM kit to be guaranteed.

The RAM has been tested and confirmed to run at 2000 MHz. as THREE DIMMS - NOT SIX DIMMS.

Because you are using TWO different RAM kits it is unlikely that you will ever be able to run them at the latency and frequency specified for the THREE DIMM RAM kit. You can try slower latencies like 11-11-11-30 2T or a lower frequency but there is no guarantee this or any other BIOS setting combination will work with the two RAM kits, let alone two different RAM kits. You can also up the QPI to 1.35 V.

It's unlikely the new RAM is damaged as it's tested before shipping. You can run Memtest 86+ V4.10 (A link is available on the left upper section of the page in blue) on each individual DIMM to see if there are issues.

The Problem is it is even not working alone with 3x 2GB 8-9-8-24 the BIOS is not booting. I have reset the BIOS too. The Ram is only running at the slowest speed. This is ridiculous! MemTest 4.1 was OK no errors found. A lot of the times I have mixed up the RAM, doesn't matter the faster RAM runs as the slowest one. However, as I said it even not working with 3x 2GB 8-9-8.
