boden08
hi all, The problems is the system will only boot with 1 moduel not two. With one it boots and works fine but with 2 the system gets to the windows logo and reboots its self. I have tried different slots and still the same. Any other questions just ask. edit*** if this memory is not goot what corsair memory could i use on this motherboard and cpu. Thanks
trackrat
Make sure that you are using the latest BIOS to improve RAM compatibility. The cmd4gx3m2a1600c9 is approved compatible for Intel i5/i7 systems so it may not ever work without issues on your AMD system. You can try 9-9-9-24 2T 1333 MHz. @ 1.65 V or 11-11-11-30 2T 1333 MHz. @ 1.65 V. You can also bump the CPU-NB / VDDNB to 1.26 V. If this does not work then you should select AMD Phenom II compatible RAM from the link below. http://www.corsair.com/products/phenomii/default.aspx
boden08
Hi thanks for the help i sent back the other memory and ordered some cmp4gx3mb1600c8 which is for phenom II systems and is on the corsair phenom II list but it is still the same. i can boot with one stick but if i put two in it gets to the windows logo and the system restarts again. Too be honest i have never changed anythin in the bios like voltage before so they are all just set to auto but there is a memok button that i use but still no good just wont boot with both of them in. the memory i have now has 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 1.65v version 7.1 if that helps. Any ideas will be great. Thanks
Wired
Test one stick at a time in each slot using Memtest86+.
boden08
Hi wired, i have been advised that their is no need to use memtest86+ as i have been able to boot the system and run it fine with both stick but on there own. When testing i used one stick and tried it in all 4 slots a1,a2,b1,b2 (on its own). Then i did the other stick the same again in all 4 slots and both run perfect with no problems. I have been told from scan that it could be the voltage so i set it to 1.65v as it states on the memory and still nothing. The board supports upto 1800mhz but the board is set at 1333mhz and the memory is 1600mhz so i set the speed to 1333mhz but still nothing. the only thing i haven't done is the timing as there is about 15 of them but only 4 on the memory 8-8-8-24. I have just looked and founf there is a new bios update 2302 and my bios is 2202 but it states it is for the ROM and nothing else do you think it is worth upgrading for this Thanks
Wired
So it'll boot with EITHER stick, gotcha. BIOS update is a good idea. If that doesn't fix it then I'd look towards the CPU as being the culprit.
boden08
ok i did the bios update changed the voltage to 1.65 and put the speed to 1333mhz. The system ran all the way to the desktop but then rebooted, what does this mean. What i wanted to try was the timings on the memory like i said before my timings are 8-8-8-24 but there is about 15 different settings, which ones do i change. trackrat
The link below may help with the timings? http://www.overclock.net/faqs/26706-info-ram-timings-dummies.html
boden08
ok looked at the link you gave me, thanks. I found a link earlier and found out the settings i needed to change cas-trcd-trp-tras. But still nothing i have tried every thing now i even tried ganged and unganged but still nothing, the only thing i have not tried is command rate but thats because there is no command rate in the asus bios. I tried to change it in amd overdrive but once rebooted the setting default so that still dont work. so as it stands i still cant use both moduels at the same time, but only one. There is not problem with the slots as both moduels work in all four but on there own. as sujested earlier could it be my cpu or could it be the motherboard. I am going to phone the company tomorrow to see what they can do but it would help if i could tell them the problem which i cant as i dont know. What are your opinions. Thanks again guys
trackrat
Yes it could be the mobo/CPU. I'd be far more inclined to believe it is the mobo as in my experience Asus has a lot of RAM issues. Have you contacted Asus tech Support about this issue? FWIW I'm sure the Asus BIOS has a RAM command rate setting. I believe they call it 1N/2N. 2N is preferred. It's the same as 1T or 2T. boden08
Yes i have contacted asus but not much luck. i have spoken to many people and computer shops and they wern't much help. i am going to phone the supplyer today to see what they advise. If they say sent both the motherboard and cpu back i will have to do that but been told that asus never have many problems with their boards. Asus also told me that there is a memok button that configurates the memory, this was one of the first things i tried and it is the worse think i have seen on a board, if you push the memok button it just resets everything back to dafault, like pushing f10 in bios. Is that waht the memok button does. Could anyone tell me why it would be the mobo that may be the cause of the problem. i know the reason behind the cpu ( memory controller) but also heard that if the memory controler was not working then i couldn't use any memory with it (1 stick) so in that instance it wouldn't be my cpu as i cam run the system with one module in it. Many thanks again
