pspcpog
Hi, I'm considering a new 1090t build with GA-870A-UD3 board and am wondering which module would be better for a moderate overclocking (below 4ghz I guess) intended for 2d cad, 3d modeling/rendering. 1. 2x4gb 8gb CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 (2000Mhz CL9 9-10-9-27) 2. 4x2gb 8gb CMX4GX3M2A1600C8 (1600Mhz CL8 8-8-8-24) I could get them for about the same $ and I can't decide  I know the cpu and mobo combo doesn't support 2000Mhz, so I'm thinking of downclocking the 2000Mhz to 1800Mhz. Is option 1 better than 2 when you overclock it because it's only two sticks vs four sticks of ram? I wonder what the timing is gonna be when you downclock 2000Mhz to 1800Mhz or even 1600Mhz? Can you maintain 8-8-8-24 timing with the cl8 1600mhz with four sticks rather than two? Please help!!!
trackrat
You do NOT want TWO RAM kits. Use ONE tested, matched, compatible RAM kit for your CPU to prevent issues. The CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 would be easier on the IMC and probably OC a tiny bit better but there are no guarantees in OC'ing so all you can do is see what your hardware will do. The latencies that Corsair specifies are for one RAM kit at the specified frequency. You may be able to slightly lower the latency when running the RAM at a lower frequency but it's totally insignificant with DDR3 in my experience.
