stele
I'm a bit of a noob here. I have HX3X12G1333C9, but as expected the Gigabyte motherboard is indicating they are running at about 1080Mhz (everything is on Auto, on stock system - haven't even booted up an OS with it yet). Naturally I'd like to get the memory up to the rated speed of 1333, but I don't really have any idea about where to start. I'm comfortable tweaking BIOS settings, just don't know which settings are the important ones (since memory, CPU, power, etc all seem to be linked). I'm pretty sure this is a fairly common setup. Any suggestions? Bonus points to anyone who can tell me what to set to get this system up to ~4Ghz. I don't have liquid cooling but the case is chock full of fans and I have a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 on the CPU.
trackrat
The link below may be of help? http://www.techreaction.net/2010/09/07/3-step-overclocking-guide-bloomfield-and-gulftown/ The i7-950 is only guaranteed to run RAM @ 1066 MHz. but you will likely be able to OC it with manual BIOS adjustments per the link above but with overclocking there are NO guarantees. The more RAM/modules the more difficult to OC. http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37150
