Parkerb123
I built my son a gaming rig about 2 years ago and only bought him 4gigs of DDR3 ram which is CM3X2048-1333C9DHX. He is getting into animation design at his school and I didn't want to put a lot of money into more upgrades so I bought him another 4gigs of the same type, but I noticed when it came in the mail today I compared the 1 stick from my sons computer and the new kind and the version types are different?? The one in my sons computer is ver3.1 and uses 1.60V and the new kind is ver3.3 and uses 1.5V and there both 1333MHz and 2048MB per stick. could this cause a problem for his computer? trackrat
Unfortunately the mixing of RAM can cause a lot of issues per the Memory Upgrade Guide link in my signature. You may get lucky and be able to run the two RAM kits at 11-11-11-30 2 T @ 1.6 V but they may also not run together at all. It's always best to purchase ONE tested, matched, CPU compatible RAM kit to eliminate issues.
Yellowbeard
Since you already have the memory, try it and see. You may have to raise the memory controller voltage a bit to about the 1.3v to 1.4v range if you are unstable at the stock settings.
