Mahlon
I'm preparing to upgrade from 12gb to 24gb RAM. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience/success installing 24 gb on a system, and whether there may be some obvious things to look out for. The memory I'm looking at is Corsair CMP24GX3M6A1333C9, which is 1333. Would there be any stability reason to go with faster memory (like CMP24GX3M6A1600C9, which is 1600) when running 24gb? I'm upgrading because I do music production and the amount of RAM is critical to loading large sound libraries. I've maxed out 12gb. Thanks for the input. Mahlon p.s. I'll be using my same Asus Rampage II Gene motherboard and i7 920.
trackrat
With the issues that Asus has with RAM compatibility, I'd e-mail their tech support to be sure that your mobo/BIOS will actually support 24 GB. of Corsair RAM without issues.
Mahlon
Thanks for the reply, trackrat. I will contact Asus about that, though the specs of the board are "supposed" to support what I'm asking. I was wondering if anyone from Corsair has had experience with 24gb ram in this or any board. As I'm just starting this search for answers, I'm really looking for any general problems that might exist. Mahlon
trackrat
Oh I understand. I just wanted you to contact Asus as their products claim to be able to do lots of things the actual mobos can't always do without a few BIOS updates to correct issues. ;):
