pzsatch
Coming from XP, I have upgraded my system with Windows 7 64bits. Up to now I have no issue with 2GB but I decided to increase the amount of DRAM for 4GB. My initial configuration was a P5K Pro from Asus with 2 x CM2X1024-6400 (5-5-5-12 , rev5.2). Then I added 2 x CM2X1024-6400 (5-5-5-18, rev7.6). With this new 4 GB configuration, system is unstale : freeze, need to reboot during apps ... I have tried to remove one new Dram Dimm, 3GB, system seems to be more stable. Tested with MEM86+ and 4GB, no errors detected ! Do you have any suggestion in order to use the full 4GB configuration without problem ? Bios updated as well.
raven49
The timings don't match. Go into your bios and try changing the tRAS on the first set from 12 to 18 and make sure the DRAM voltage is set correctly. Then test with Memtest86+ (at least 4 passes). If you receive any errors, you might have to bump up the NB voltage a bit. Sometimes the memory controller needs a little more voltage with 4 slots filled. pzsatch
Thanks, I will check this evening at home. I remenber that CPUZ gave me 5.0-5-5-18-22 @ 400 MHz and voltage @ 1.8v. The 4 DRam at specified at 1.9v ... so do it means I can increase the voltage until this value ?
raven49
With the 5.0-5-5-18-22 timings @ 400 MHz, 1.8v should be fine. As for increasing the voltage, look at the labels on each module. There should be a voltage listed. As long as they are all the same, it would be safe to increase to that voltage. For example: 2.1v. Also check the timings on each label and make sure they match. And lastly, don't mix the module sets. For example: if you have yellow and black slots, put rev5.2 in the yellow slots or the black slots. Not one in each. pzsatch
ok I will increase the voltage up to 1.9V at first. If no result try to test different timing (12 to 18), and Northbrigde Voltage if needed. Hope it will work, I'm so frustrated because all the Drams are from Corsair with the same value ... excepted the timing (5-5-5-12 are not any more available on the market !) raven49
Matching timings are much more important than increasing the voltage. If the timings don't match, it won't mater how much voltage you add, it will never be stable.
pzsatch
Tried from 12 to 18 : no way => I launch Crysis, freeze after some seconds of game. If there is no easy solution, I will stay at 3Gb ! Corsair support, suggest to decrease DRAM speed to 667Mhz, but same isssue.
raven49
What voltage is listed on the labels? Did you try increasing the memory controller voltage? A .2v increase has been suggested in the past.
pzsatch
1.9v. Yes I tried @ 1.9V (vs1.8V)
raven49
DRAM voltage and memory controller/NB voltage are diffrent. I had been making ajustments to the speed and voltage of the memory controller on my AMD cpu and forgot yours is in the NB. Might have been better if I said NB in my last post. pzsatch
Raven, thanks for your help ! BTW, seems to be not easy to "tune" for a stable configuration. I'm desperated, at least the 3GB works fine ! I'm only frustrated by the Corsair's support on this "standard" question. Thks again.
