Windows 7 Backup & Restore

Recommended Posts

I have a F240 and I'm trying to get a Image of a bare windows install. I can create the image without any problem, but when it comes to restoring the image it doesn't move at all.

I've seen the tutorial of using Arconis, but I paid for windows and was using the built in utility with no complaints. Has anyone run into the same problem and possibly have a work around?

I'm running the latest Firmware on both system board and F240 with AHCI enabled.

Also when I find the right imaging solution, should I do a secure erase before re-imaging? (n00b question)

Thanks!

I would suggest checking with Microsoft they would be the best source with their software..

And Yes if you have had the drive partitioned or another O.S. on it, you can use Parted Magic to secure erase the drive.

However, I would just use Windows Disk Manage and delete all the partitions then Quick format with 4K allocation and test with ATTO, if its performing properly there is not need to secure erase it.

I've noticed a similar issue. When I create an image with windows 7 backup I can only restore without secure erasing the drive. If I secure erase then I get an error recovering the drive.

I believe Acronis is the best but ONLY in DOS mode. If you have a WD drive you get Acronis DOS free.
